To a degree, but likely a minor one. Ridiculous with rounds... not unusual with flats (again, bass )

I think it applies to guitar as well. That pretty much describes what I experienced. The flatwounds sounded consistent, so I never felt I need to change them. Rounds always sounded dull or dead so it was obvious they need to be changed.

but yeah strings have a big effect on the guitar sound. it's the first step in the signal chain. the original source of everything you're listening to.

I like Dads for some things. On short scales I do tend to love them. For everything else I'm slowly switching to GHS. GHS just seems to make more balanced and flexible strings.

Me too. I have been using D'Addario flats on my guitars and their tone is consistent.
Mostly, I change the strings when my luthier and I need to take them off for a repair or modification.
Never felt any reason to switch them out, they tune nicely and sound good.

I use Spaghetti - I prefer Napolina brand as it seems to retain a certain firmness and 'snap' to the tone for longer than Asda's own brand. Mojo tip: A light oiling in full fat butter really brings out the mids!!

I always use 10s on short scales. I use 9.5s or 9s on standard scale, too. :>

I use 10's on everything. I also noticed that thunky sound when I used thicker gauges.
