I'm definitely interested enough to try out one of the jazzes with the two p pickups. I could care less about the p bass though.

They are anything but boring, cosmetically, yes, but they definitely offer different tonal options to anything Fender currently offers. The two split pickup is possibly one of the best J-bass variants I've ever seen, and one I hadn't even considered. The HH P-bass is also a great idea, though tonally it's probably not something I need.

Honeyiscool, though I recognise the correctness of your words my aesthetic shallowness eclipses my care for tonal range and therefore must reject your statement on such grounds.

Yeah, the P-bass doesn't interest me in the least... but the PP Jazz is intriguing.

I've mentioned in another thread that I do hold reservations on the Blacktop Jazz Bass, based on the fact that the Blacktop guitars are all sporting "hot" pickup, and that seems to be an important schtick for the line. If the bass pickups are too hot, it'll suck. If they're more of a standard wind/voicing, it has its appeal for me.

They are coming... black isn't an interesting colour, really, but it can look damn good.
Case in point:

No one said black on black is shit. But black on black with anaemic neck tint over all makes look like pooooooo. The whole thing looks like plastic

And I think most of them look closer to hot than not. Especially black on black with chrome hardware. One of the few color chioces that makes everything look nice. Boring? Yes. Ugly? I dunno.

Is that Aerodyne? Hell of a bass if it is.

What's this anaemic neck tint you refer to? I'm curious.

The only Blacktops I've played are the Jaguar (which I thought was pretty shit) and I have a Blacktop Strat neck which I think is rather lovely, despite the fact that I don't like glossy maple necks as a principle.

I hope they introduce some other colors, though. One of the best things about the Blacktop lineup is that they have a fantastic array of colors.

Indeed so :) I love it, but have been considering a pickup shift to SD Hot Jazz and Vintage P, but I've been considering this for years and haven't done it.

I like having a noiseless bridge pickup for PJ configurations. DiMarzio makes a good noiseless pickup.

Black pickguard on black is awesome. There is nothing wrong with it, and nothing boring about it. I think it looks awesome, it's one of the few things that always seems to work, no matter how much it is used.
