I've decided on the CP Jag, just wondering which version to get.
The HB Jag is obviously a bit more versatile in theory, it can really high output metal tones and also decent single coil tones thanks to the blend control and high DC Resistance to stop it sounding thin. You can get a useful range of tones between high output HB and stratty Single coils.
But I've heard the pickups aren't great, and when you're swapping in Humbuckers for a decent coil split tone there's no telling what will come out like, plus it'll be expensive and I tend to buy GFS pickups which don't really do any with a high enough resistance to work well for coil splitting. If I could get a humbucker that was two Jag pickups(with the shielding of course) in one that'd be neat. The P-Rails could be an option too.
I think I'd prefer the SS out of the box. I really need to hear more clips of both though. I liked how the cleans sounded in Mike's demo, but I'd like to hear it through a Vox type amp or something, something known for teh Jangles.

Man that sure looks great!
If I was going to get a Jag, I would want the single coils, not the HH.

I wish there was a Classic Player in BURGUNDY MIST -

Honestly, if I see a CIJ in that colour, I may get it instead. Or maybe even a JM in that colour. Missed out on one going fairly cheap, with a nice black pickguard too not so long ago.
I love the look of the CAR but I'm unsure if it isn't a bit too bright/shiny for me.

Not really... no jobs going here and won't be for some while. Also stuck here for reasons I won't get into, and have some therapy to get through before I can hold down any kind of stable employment. I have some money put away and I need to keep some for "Just in case" as well as other bits and bobs. I can afford around €550 max for a guitar, hoping to try and find one for 500 as I've seen them go for that much.AaronGuitarDude wrote:u can always save money
Echo and the bunnymen, one of my favourite bands - saw them live at the birmingham odeon in 85/86 - will sergeant is an awsome guitarist, dabbles in a bit of art/painting now apparently.StevePirates wrote:I just bought a CP Jag single coil in sunburst. I'm anxiously awaiting its delivery. As a 6'2" 230 lb guy with stubby fingers, it's a perfect guitar for me. Mustangs look comically small on me, the Jag body looks great. I find Jags easier to play.
I think you chose well. I fell in love with Jags after listening to Echo and the Bunnymen.
You and I seem to like the same genres, industrial, trip hop, goth type stuff. I think you'll be happy with the Jag.

Seriously it sounds like a CAR CP Jag is best on your list criteria and I think you're getting lost in eternal loops of decision making but needing to bounce it off folks here for constant validation. Honestly, choose something and go with it - you can always sell it on if not right and there's enormous scope for making mods to the HH and, should you want to, there are many folks here who would be happy to advise you on the how/what/where of such things. Learn to live with the fact that 'the perfect correct decision', guitar or otherwise, is hardly ever reached without trial, error and actually getting stuck in and doing stuff.
Now I wanna see all these threads turn into an actual guitar and I want to see pics when you get it!

I'm afraid of commitment too - if I get one of the guitars, I may love it but still kind of wish I'd gotten the other, and too attached to it to sell it.
I'm like this with actual relationships too, funnily enough...
If I get a good enough deal on the Sunburst, I may go for that too. Might replace the tort pickguard with a black one. I like the CAR but I'm not sure it would suit me in a weird way. I'll probably have to swap the pickguard on it.
I wish there was a black/tort one now.

Don't the CPs have a pretty strong Poly finish? I've seen CIJs chipped. Sunburst guitars tend to look better with damage too, they have a more "wooden" look to them anyway. It's something to consider.johnnyseven wrote:CAR paint would chip but sunburst would just get dented or marked. Don't know if that's important to you but it may have an effect on resale value.
Sorry about the multiple threads too. I made this one to keep to one thread. There were multiple considerations that didn't quite belong in the same thread though (HH vs. SS, comforrt of neck).
I'll just have to see what comes up.

I don't know if this has any bearing on the CP Jaguar but i've had a CP Jazzmaster and I didn't like the updated features that it has over a classic JM. I much preferred all the Japanese JM's that i'd had.George wrote:Afraid of commiting to just one thread too by the looks of things *scoff*
No but seriously, the CAR CP looks wonderful. I would take a CP over an RI any day.
You named this thread incorrectly too, you haven't made a decision about what yuo want to buy.Medicine Meloncholy wrote:Sorry about the multiple threads too. I made this one to keep to one thread. It's clearly a matter of personal taste. I'm not surprised they polarise opinion (both RI and CP's)johnnyseven wrote:I don't know if this has any bearing on the CP Jaguar but i've had a CP Jazzmaster and I didn't like the updated features that it has over a classic JM.
