I thought you were all about the HH?!?Medicine Melancholy wrote:Goddamn. There are 2 HHs now on adverts.ie, but no SS. Gumblecakes.
I think you should not get any guitar and just buy a keyboard or something. With one key. And one knob. Avoid choice at all cost: you will be much happier

I actually have a synth. I love synths in theory but I'm even worse playing them than guitar, my fingers can never "remember" more than one pattern at once if you understand, so doing manual arpeggios etc. is near impossible for me whereas with guitar that's not really that much of a problem, I just do it badly. That's why I'm looking into getting some good fuzz/synth effects.
I mean, it's hard to commit to this. I've decided on a Jag but within that there's still quite a bit of variety. I want this to be my one good guitar(so that probably rules out an unmodded CIJ, reliability is important) and it's a lot of money for me.
Part of the issue is that I haven't found good clips of the HH vs SS. I really loved the clean tone of the SS in Mike's demo. The HH not sounding like a "Jag" coilsplit is a bit of a bother, but it's possible it has a sound I like even more(you never know) but most of the demos are inevitably distorted.
Sorry for all the threads and indecision. Without having any in the stores here it's hard to compare and also I feel awkward playing instruments when I can't afford to buy them new. I really need some good clips of them, I'll keep looking.

that's what sequencers are for.Medicine Melancholy wrote:I actually have a synth. Haha, yeah, but that's not terribly "live" of me. I started to use the Arpeggiator on my MKXL recently.Mages wrote:that's what sequencers are for.Medicine Melancholy wrote:I actually have a synth. My "Live" gigs out of interest:

You can see me playing a bit of synth where I can manage it, and I have a guitar on at some point...

Yeah. I rather Jags more overall and I really liked the feel of the Jagmaster I tried. Otherwise I'll hold out for one of the SS Jags. The HHs are nice but after hearing more demos, the cleans are a little thinner in full on single coil mode. I imagine the variable coil split helps a lot with that, but you're making it more humbuckery as you do that too. I don't know if you'd really reach a "sweet spot". I prefer the sound of the Jag pickups overall.StevePirates wrote:If you're looking for a short scale, a Jazzmaster won't do you any good. Of course if you're just looking for offset, it's perfect.Medicine Melancholy wrote:To complicate matters, I got offered a Jazzmaster with Antiquities etc. for a decent price... hurt but I pretty much passed it up.
The pickups in the CP Jags are pretty great too, though a little more P90 like. Antiquities would probably be idea for a Jazzmaster sound, but I do like the idea of something a bit hotter for what I do.
cool stuff. I see what you're going for now. what are you using on the computer then?Medicine Melancholy wrote:My "Live" gigs out of interest:

I'm veering more towards a guitar heavy direction, obviously, and using some more shoegazey type effects. I've decided that the "quirky" sound of a Jag will probably work best with my kind of music(A Dano would probably work well too, but they're not as versatile), and the bass cut switch is going to be great for glitching out pedals that track(like the MXR blue box).
My latest video up there "Minders of the Offspring" is maybe a little more representative of the direction I want to go in, it only has some guitar parts but you can kind of see what I'm trying to do with them. Of course, I'll be using a guitar to drive synth type effects too, and playing actual synth from time to time.

i think a split HH does sound fairly jag-like. empires uses one, all his lead playing on this track is a split neck pickup as far as i know:Medicine Melancholy wrote:Part of the issue is that I haven't found good clips of the HH vs SS. i think the split HH pickups have a bad rep round here and i'm not sure why, to be honest. they sound good to me. ask him what his opinion is, seeing as he uses one as his main live guitar, he's more likely to know than some of the usual armchair experts who chime in about such things.

I only did the videos for Dennis's Tile Emporium, Sussman's Clock and Sakura Courage Solo. I'm not much of a visual artist. Fortunately my friends Arthur O'Regan and Claire Guerin are pretty amazing visual artists. I'll have to get Claire to do something fancier for me at some stage.Dave wrote:OOoh likey very much. Digging the 2001 psychedelic video. How did you do that?
Arthur's videos would have been done in Adobe After Effects, which can be a bit of a nightmare to use.
