Bronco tuners replacement

Hi,

I have a 1973 Bronco with original tuners.
Does anyone know if there a direct
replacement for these wonky tuners?

I have never had any issues with the white button F-tuners I have on mine.
It's really stable, stays in tune for weeks, even with light trem usage.

My Bronco has a tuner spacing of 123mm centre of high E to centre of Low E.
Kluson-style tuners are 120mm, the bushings would work, and you've only got 3mm to lose over 5 tuners.
But you'll see the screw holes from the stock tuners.
Reissue F-tuners need a larger 10mm hole drilling in the headstock and are a different spacing again (125mm?).

My advice though, would be to leave it the fuck alone!
Changing parts on a 40 year old guitar will affect it's value, and worse than that mess with it's MOJO!!!

Dude... the problem with your advice, is that vintage instruments are all different, especially with these budget models. A lot of them were neglected, not taken care of properly, left to rust and corode in damp basements etc. His tuners could quite possibly, actually need to be replaced. It might not just be that he wants to replace them for the sake of modification alone.

I'm pretty sure people have used reissue F tuners to replace vintage ones without problem. I had a set of reissues, that I never put on my Bronco neck, because before it was refinished, I found a good deal on a vintage white tip set so I bought those and sold the reissue set. I should have put them on just to see if they did in fact fit.

Hi,

I should have mentioned that the problem is that one
of the pegs is slightly bent, and all six tuners are
very stiff to turn resulting in over or under tuning the
note. It also seems that a very small turn results in
a large adjustment in the note – does this mean
the gear ratio is low?
I will post a photo as time permits in a day or 2.
Of the six guitars that I have – this Bronco is
the most responsive, lively, acoustic and resonant
of them all – a real firecracker of a guitar.

I.E. Klusons will fit but you'll see the old screw holes.

I bought some reissue F-tuners, to put on an allparts JGRO neck.
I haven't used them because of the funny spacing.
You might be able to get them to fit but I guarantee it.

Give the old ones a chance. They are low ratio and quirky. The ones on mine are shot but hold tune well. Hell, the posts fall out of two of them when there are no strings. One peg is bent. If not there are the '69 Mustang reissue tuners available from Fender. I'm not sure if they fit the same though.

be careful not to put on heavy tuners you will offset the weight
