They weren't supposed to, nor does the term "non-reverse" reference the Firebird. The Firebird was based on a flipped Jazzmaster but Fender got pissed about it, so the term "non-reverse" just meant they were no longer flipping the Jazzy. The original Firebird was meant to cop a Fender vibe in every way, that space-age look (they got a '50s auto designer to draw it) the custom colours (Pelham, Fiesta-type red) etc... and perhaps most tellingly, a "reverse" Fender-style headstock which is "non-reverse" on the non-reverse.
I actually hate non-reverse firebirds, but when it comes to the cheapo studio versions Gibson have definitely done better with this one than the regular firebird studio.
I'd take 3 P90s over zero minihums anyday.
