Coral Squier SuperSonic: Esquired

Post by wadeaminute »

I have almost finished my SuperSonic project, and thought thought that it would be a good time to start my own thread.
First, a shot of the cavity-filled body:

Second, shots of the front and back after the first coat of primer (shot by a friend that paints helmets for Roller Derby: CSI Customs).

Interesting features: routed for tele-plate, tele bridge, and a strat jack on the back.

Will be Re-Ranch Coral with white pearl guard, with gold hardware.

BG 1400 pickup, with 4-way switch and coil tap (eight tones).
Gold Gotoh 6 saddle bridge, left-handed.
Waiting on custom gold Sperzel tuners with white pearl buttons.

I have four other SuperSonics (one in each colour).
A Whole Bunch of Guitars. Some with sparkles. Some with Pearl. Some with racing stripes.

This is gonna be a crazy, sexy build...especially in Coral!
Lot of thought gone into it with the neat little mods....

Pity you didnt get another shortscale member to cut you another body out, and then punted
the SS body onto another forum member like me...ahem!...nudge nudge wink wink  ...
Errmmm....dont have anymore spare kicking around do you?
Good luck with it!! 8)

This particular SuperSonic was bought in pieces. I had looked into cutting a fresh body, but it was going to be more expensive. Also, as the neck slot / neck plate is unique on these, it would have been a pain. In the end, I would have bought a whole guitar just for the neck and neckplate if I had had a new body made, which seemed silly.
As it is, I have a lot of extra SuperSonic parts left over.
The other four SuperSonics are all modified in their own ways, too:

The whole lot of them:

I like the way you have combined the words "whore" and "hoarder". I must say that I resemble that remark!

Thanks. It all started in 1996 when I was going to buy a Left-Handed Sonic Blue Jag-Stang and have it set up Right-Handed. Tony at Kitts Musique in Montreal pulled out the then-new Squier Vista brochure and suggested that a SuperSonic would accomplish the same thing AND be sparkly.

And then I bought five. (Over twelve years).

lol @ strat jack on the back. that seems actually worse than putting it on the front.

color looks great, though.

At least no one will ever see it, then! :D

And thanks, i think the colour is spot on myself. The gentleman who is painting it has promised to buff it out extra shiny once the paint dries for a few days.

I hope the finished product has less pickguard. It kinda looks cool, but the excess pickguard past the bridge and control plate makes it look like someone just threw some tele parts on a supersonic.

Make the bottom half of the pickguard more tele-like and you have yourself a sexy ass geetfiddle!

Edit: kinda like this

Image

though, there are quite a number of telemasters out there that have that vibe, so if you're trying to do something different, than wicked!

I appreciate the pick guard advice, and that exact design was considered, but I'm going for the pickguard I have. I found a John English Telecaster that did similar things.

Image

And, to be truthful, it is a Super-Sonic with tele parts fired on there.
I was going to cover that cavity and I'm glad I didn't, because the parts that I did fill did not end up being seamless. The top block is covered by the bridge, but the back block is visible through the paint slightly.

There's Tele DNA (if only a subtle nod) in that there pickguard, thickness and lack of contours.

haha, if you say so. I'm not seeing the pickguard. Lack of contours, maybe; but with those pickups, it looks more mustang to me. All perspective, I suppose.
