Fantastic... An interesting turn of events in my head, though I could easily imagine J telling the Fender staff not to compromise on some essentials. Totally glad things turned out that way.
As if I actually needed another guitar or two, I can easily foresee me getting a Warmoth baritone and/or 12 string neck and a (couple of) ABS TOM bridges for some devious intentions to follow. I've also got a spare white Jazzmaster guard to make use of, come to think of it.
This is positive news. It could open the flood gates for more Squiers to come with Jagzy tremolo systems, and dare I say it, one day, Mustang systems. This particular model doesn't do it for me, I think because Jazzys are too big for me.

Please elaborate, George! I only say that because there are a number of diminutive front girls in Korean bands that have no issue with a Jazzo, and would think that the shape (more than the size itself) can be comfy to fit most players, albeit the overall length being quite long in the Fender family.
This horrible-sounding Korean indie band I saw on TV for example (imagine if Falco had produced the Clash before he passed) has a 5'3" lead singer who does quite fine with a vintage Jazzmaster. And what a looker! (Jazzmaster, not the singer)
I'm seriously thinking of selling my Japanese B&B CAR JM and getting one of these. I not as much of a fan of the thicker neck on this than on my other non-B&B JM, it would be shame to see it go though as it really is a lovely guitar. Maybe I could buy the Mascis and just put the neck on my B&B.
It won't be but that's not exactly an insurmountable problem anyway. It's now been taken down on Thomann from the original listing and I assume it will be relisted as a Squier at some point soon.
I'm concerned a Mastery Bridge wont fit in the TOM cups on this.
Nah, seriously, i got out of buying the Fender version due to price but this one will be unavoidable. Think i'll wait for reviews to filter through first though.

Just read the Offset thread about this new Jazzmaster. Seriously, I know plenty of people here make out like the Offset vs. Shortscale thing is just a bit of fun, but they really are all complete and utter fucking dickbags.

I generally only read the 'mods and projests' section, and occasionally 'vintage restorations' on offset.
I think there's a mob rule of period correctness, that scares most of them out of having their own opinions.
Saying that, the colour scheme of white with a gold pickguard is period correct for 1959...
Aaahh I like Offset mainly for the projects I admit, and for truly erudite knowledge on such things it's pretty much tip top - You can't knock folks like WorkOfFire, Stereordinary, AndrewDoesHair or many others on their for their work.
As Ultra pointed out this guitar is BANG ON for projects, baritone or otherwise. Most of my guitars are basswood so I'd prefer something else really but only for that reason and if the price is right I'm not going to quible that. Blonde and gold guard is great in my book...it kind of does suggest a CV heritage if only in aesthetic. Sure I'd like a Trem lock for the drop-D's but that won't cost a lot to upgrade if you sell the original to part fund it. Really, all in all, this is a godsend of just doing something right for the cheaper price point.
