Yep, that's how the big boys do it. The lock should just slip into place if need be, not too tight so it moves the tailpiece, not too loose that the lock doesn't work. I never actually used my lock anyway, just for setup.benecol wrote:I use my tremloc as a reference point for setting my trem up right - wouldn't be without one. Plus, if a string breaks, I can keep the guitar in tune.

Pat, truly I find your posts amongst the most consistently enjoyable and fun to read and that story was great!
Trem lock is a godsend as far as I'm concerned. If you like to use the trem but also like to drop D or other quick tuning changes it's brilliant.

The "lead" is my basswood Aerodyne Telecaster, through a Fulltone DP-1 and Twin Reverb; most of it is using the bridge, then switch to the neck at the end.
Both my Tele and Jazz Bass are basswood, and they both sound just fine and have long lasting sustain. It is prone to dings, though... which is really nasty with the gloss black of the Aerodynes, but not such an issue with other finishes that age/batter better.
boooo.
Those are from the strap adjust tapping the body when I put the bass on the stand without being careful that the strap is behind the instrument :/

I've borrowed a ply guitar which had a certain charm, and I love a Dano's masonite construction, but basswood guitars just feel like bodyboards to me. They have a crunchy, raspy sort of character to my ears, the same as they'd make if you fed them into a chipper. Which I would.ekwatts wrote:As much as I defend basswood, I'm not entirely certain I've ever had a guitar made of it.. I've had one made of ply and my Dano is made partly of Masonite, though.

Or, more unlikely, they are dirty as fuck
I was really skeptical about them when I first got the bass (eBay purchase, they're what the old user had), but I really liked them when it arrived. They look really nice, which was clear in the pictures he'd posted, but, to my surprise, they sound brilliant too; and last forever.

The only strings I have picked on colour, are for my Martin acoustic. The brassy colour fits the guitar, and luckily they do sound nice on it. They are the same as the ones shipped on it. I would like to try other strings, but I have no idea where to start on acoustic strings.

But, yeah, basswood, sounds fine, lightweight... you do have to be mildly careful with it as it's soft. Not a bad way to keep costs low.
