Jaguar weights?
Just wondering. I know offsets can be a little on the heavy side. The Classic Players are listed at around 8lbs, having tried them they don't seem that heavy so that seems about right. The Blacktop Jazzer seemed heavier to me, and the Squier lighter.
I know some Japanese ones are made out of Basswood, so it might be a little better for lightweightness.

The body wood definitely impacts weight. Alder, agathis, and mahogany will be heavier while basswood and premium selected ash will be much lighter. Ash can really run the gambit from super heavy to extremely light. My brother-in-law sells the Southern Ash guitar stock from his lumber mill and they only sell the planks that of the lighter weight varieties. I am not sure how often Fender made Ash Jazzmaster/Jaguars because they switched to Alder as the primary wood before those guitars came out. They definitely exist, I just don't know the quantities. My tele made from the Ash guitar stock is extremely light while my Alder Jaguar is much heavier. Agathis guitars are the heaviest guitars I have ever played.

Unless you have a medical condition (like I do) that prevents you from carrying around the weight of a fat but adorable cat for an hour at most the weight of a Jag probably isn't going to be that much of an issue. Besides which, the weight is dependent as much on the sheer amount of hardware on the front as the type of wood it's made out of. You have three metal plates, two pickups, a big steel trem, the bridge, all the electronics, pots etc.. That adds up to a great deal of weight in comparison to the bare wood of the body.
I'd say the feel of the Jaguar almost negates this. It feels short and tucked in so the weight doesn't seem to make as much difference. It's the same when I play Les Pauls. They're pretty heavy but actually pretty comfortable for me to play (although I know some people feel the complete opposite about this) so I don't really mind the weight.

Yeah, the Jaguar is a very well balanced instrument. It is kinda heavy, but, it feels like nothin' once you put it over your shoulder. The contours and body shape let it melt in and it hangs effortlessly.ekwatts wrote:I'd say the feel of the Jaguar almost negates this. YMMV
