Basswood I believe is lighter weight which is preferable with large instruments like Offsets.

I think you have a point about other factors. Different kinds of Basswood are native to countries near Asia where they make these guitars.AddamInsane wrote:Having bought wood from an actual lumber yard, I have a reasonable idea of what it costs to make a guitar body. For what I pay, it costs £8-12 to make one, from poplar, sapelle or ash. Fender would pay a bit less for their wood. So I don't know where the £100 discrepancy in the prices for (seemingly) just different body woods and a few quid in cost. Personally, I wouldn't use bASSWOOD, because other woods are cheap and readily available. Maybe the 'sustainability' and ease of finishing are factors too?
Why should they import a bunch of alder or poplar? There might not be a huge price difference but there is consideration of shipping around a bunch of raw material when you are on the production level.
Currently many Asian companies do import hardwoods from North America, Europe, Africa, and Latin America but if they have suitable native hardwoods to the area, that is a great thing.
An example of this is Australia. They use many hardwoods that most American guitar players have never heard of, native to that region and they are considered excellent. Maton especially are known for their acoustic guitars.

I might buy one, stick the gold pickguard on my sunburst CIJ and the tort pickguard from on the squier - assuming they fit.Mike wrote:I would go with this also, I do love Tortorise on Vintage White.iblastoff wrote:unless i can find a good price on a used AVRI i think i'm going to get this! swapping that pickguard for tortoise though.

It depends how it's routed under the trem plate. The lock needs a little more wood routed out to accommodate the lock, but the Blacktop Jazzmaster has the proper route for the tremlock even though it doesn't come with tremlock. Hopefully they will do the same for this guitar so if you want to upgrade to a trem with the lock it will be a no brainer.othomas2 wrote:To those trem lock fans. Just replace Trem ?
To me the positioning of the trem is what bothers me more, but still not something to be concerned about, it has its perks too.
