For some reason, this looks much more interesting to me than the jaguar bass. maybe it's the different pickups... jag just has PJ or humbucker... kind of lame.

Strange about them like that, but the link on that page is HOT!!!

And after seeing nothing but sunbursts in the previews, it feels like FRIDAY to now know we'll also have another choice. Kindly excuse the drama, but I'm happy to hear the news:

Easiest mod on the book, though wouldntcha say?

I don't remember exactly how much I put on, but it was probably just twice that I kiwi brown'd the albino MIM Tele neck before it went onto the ol' Cindicaster (now on the pinksquire), and It looks as fantastic as ever. An optimal black/tinted maple blend on a Fender is not all that hard to pull off.

I kind of like the black/black/maple thing. It just screams 70s vintage to me. Maybe I'm biased, I do tend to prefer maple fretboards. I hoping to pick one of these up soon since my old Squier P-bass is on its way out. I wish Squier would make a Mustang guitar like this, I'd snap one up in a second.

Does seem kind of pricey, but guitar prices across the board seem to be going up.

I will buy one if I can play it first-- really frustrating that these only seem to be at small ebay shops right now... the price is close enough to that of a used fender mustang bass to make me wary of buying one w/out playin it first...

I agree I wouldn't buy one without playing it first either. But that goes for any guitar or bass. I can't wait until Guitar Center gets these in. The one that's about a mile away from me has a used japanese fender mustang bass so I could do a comparison and see which one I like better. Somebody on craigslist just posted one of these for sale yesterday. He must have bought it off ebay because he mentioned how they aren't in stores yet too. He wanted $260 for it though, so it's not a good enough deal for me to go snatch it up. Once they hit regular stores I expect to find these used for about $200 or so.

I am beginning to think Guitard Center won't carry these... and I really fucking need a bass. Maybe I'll just buy one of those epi beatle basses in protest.

It took them a while to stock the VM jaguar and jazzmaster guitars when they first came out, but now they always have them when I'm there. I'm sure they'll start showing up in stores soon.

I just called my local GC today because I scrounged up enough to buy one, and the guy had genuinely never heard of one existing before.

He actually got annoyed with his own system, because he found them all over the web (Amazon, Zzsounds, Sweetwater, eBay, Sam Ash, etc.) but Guitar Center's own computers didn't have them.
