The new micro-tilt
So this will be old-as-fuck news/unremarkable to many, but I've only just noticed over the past couple of days that American Standard Fenders have something akin to the 70s tri-bolt micro-tilt adjuster in the pocket/neck heel, still indeed called "micro-tilt", accessible with a wrench through a 4-bolt plate. So I went looking around and fuck me: they all have them. Maybe I've seen this discussed on specs lists and skimmed over what it means or something, but these pics are the first time it really sank in for me:
Now I'm finding out they've had it for AGES (have seen '89 Am Std and '90 Strat Plus with it) and am just wondering when it started up again/switched from the tri-bolt? Was there a time when they just did 4-bolt with no micro-tilt after that for Am Stds? I guess sticking to import Fenders (apart from my classically-pocketed AV '57) had led me to believe the micro-tilt was "abandoned", would be interesting to learn regular strats/teles from the US never stopped with it.

I've heard it credited to Danelectro, but the idea is older. National, I believe, used a similar system in the '50s, and I've seen work-alikes on some old Supros.Mr.Ripley wrote:I don't know who came up with it but it's not fender because my 63-64 Danelectro Pro has a similar but simpler version of the micro-tilt.Pacafeliz wrote:one of the best fender inventions, EVER.
Here's an example from all the way back in 1870:

But Danelectro's version is completely identical to Fender's.

Thankfully not my guitar, but if you wanted AmStd pickups on the cheap you could probably take on the 2 plonks (utter gentlemen if either post here) engaged in a sub-$50 bidwar for the whole kaboodle, as it ends tomorrow.

Yeah, it started sometime in the '80s
The Plus guitars had it in '87
