Pedalboard - The legacy of the les-mike lives on.+new pedals

Post by louis »

So this is a long story but a number of years ago Mike came round our flat to deliver this guitar:

Image

..Which I was to take with me to NYC and post to Shad in TAMPZ, this didn't happen as the US postal service is SHITE and I had to bring it all the way back with me, anyway, Mike brought this guitar round in a case (which I think the guitar came in when he got it) which charted changes in musical taste of the person that had owned it previous. WEEZER would be written on, then blacked out, then METALLICA written on, and then blacked out again. It was quite funny and Mike said that I could keep the case, so I did.

None of my guitars fit properly in the case and its more or less just sat there for years doing nothing, so I decided I was going to make a pedalboard with it. So I did.

I took the hinges off of the one side and replaced them with drawbolt locks, so that the top can be easily lifted off. I've then ripped out the pimp-fur from one side of the case and carefully selected a replacement, this was found by me after laughing at the price of speaker carpet, wandering around dunelm mill today looking like a special, trying to see which material my piece of velcro would stick to best. Luckily it stuck best to the cheapest mats they had, which also had the best design on them, so I got some of them, glued it all together with a glue gun and ta-da:

(The line in the middle is where I got a bit carried away with the glue gun.)

Luckily today was also the day that somebody actually bothered to call me from work to say that my pedals had arrived.
Went down and got them and both my package from Thomann and my package from Hurb were there so it was a bit of a result.

Then I had to try and arrange them which was a mission, trying to balance what sounds best after what, and how far your patch cables stretch is not the one but I think I got it down.

I've still got to find a way to fit on my looper, tremolo and another power supply but thats going to have to wait for next pay-day.

My new DV400 and RV600 are excellent! nearly blew my own head off switching them on at the same time for the first time but after a little experimentation its all gravy.

Plus, thanks to the RV600 I don't have to worry about eye cancer any more, because I almost certainly have it after looking directly at the ridiculously bright LED that it comes with.

I've seen the guitar case thing done before, it's a good idea. Surprised more people don't do it.

It just looks so WRONG that each pedal isn't in its own little halo on the carpet (but that would waste so much space)! Other than that, good stuff!

A minuscule OCD side of me agrees. You're hinting at quite an amazing idea for a live show, that could only be more tacky improved by a glowing halo of light around each, like what they do with blue neon lights under tricked import cars.

That being said, I totally dig the case as-is, Louis!

I have two extra hard cases sitting around. One of them is about to get turned into a pedal board, I think.

the halos should only come on when the pedals are on in my book

My girlfriend Hayley wanted to know what all the fuss was about with me buying new pedals so I got her to put some headphones on and played around with the delay and reverb, her exact words were "...it sounds like the end of the world :( " which is what I was going for.

A layer of sharpie and a layer of nail polish sit atop all my blue LEDs, and they're still annoyingly bright. It must be 8 times more cost-effective to be a cunt with LEDs, or...?
