Like the varitone. Otherwise pretty.... wilshire. Too bad I'm usually very allergic to signature models (DOES NOT APPLY TO J Mascis Jazzer).

I like it, looks classy :) Much nicer than the vile green in the bottom video.

I'd never even heard of this guy, then it said MCR... Then I stopped reading.

Cool! I like that headstock better, but I can't get along with a 12" radius.

I love everything about it, but I'd never breathe an ill word about MCR. That slimtaper profile plays like buttah.

this is a pretty good idea since the varitone is far more practical than a normal tone knob anyway. a tone switch is just more practical than a knob. there are only like 3 positions anyone uses on the tone knob anyway, 0 (off), 7-8 (a little bit), 10 (all the way). so why not just have a switch that just goes to those settings? also a switch gives you the ability to completely bypass the tone, unlike a pot that is never really totally off.

Surely a Varitone does a different job to a tone knob? If it has an inductor in it (which it should, other wise it is a tone switch) then does it not give a notched filter sort of a sound?

I don't think all the settings use the inductor. so I think it's like a tone knob... and more.

Ah, okay. That's odd that they'd leave the inductor out of some setting but not others.

ok just checked and you're right they all use the inductor.

although that seems less of a range of adjustment to me, especially when you've taken away the tone knob. oh well.

THD electronics also make something like it: http://www.thdelectronics.com/quintet_sub_page.html

There are a few people online who make varitones. Given that it's basically fuck all in terms of parts, and maybe twenty minutes work, if you can flip that for twenty quid then you're going to do doing well.

I think I'd want a tone knob as well, though. They do different things, like.

"great, reliable, and cutting edge" sounds so jive. They need a copywriter under the age of 70.

Epiphone could make their name by doing weird things with electronics. Forget Gibson copies and do some experiments.
