they could make the body shape attractive and/or balanced though. fender body designs are, for the most part, a cut above in my mind, that marauder just looks like some crapola plywood knock off from the 70s. the triple pickup is a nice idea but the rest looks cobbled together from spare parts as usual.endsjustifymeans wrote:There's only so many way to cut a piece of wood and attach magnetic pickups to it. I think that Marauder is WAY out there for Fender. New body style and a triple stacked bucker?

the supersonic is almost exactly based on the jaguar. that's a nice, tasteful design. they ruined it by flipping it over, but it's still not ugly. especially in the hands of a southpaw.honeyiscool wrote:It baffles me that people can diss the Marauder for looking like a hack job and being cobbled together from parts but then what does that make guitars like the Squier Supersonic and the Fender Jag Stang?
the jagstang is two iconic guitars merged into a somewhat iconic bastardization, but all the while maintaining lines that flow for the most part.
the fucking marauder looks like it's melted in a few spots. do not want. it looks like something you'd buy from BEHRINGER or rondo music.

if the Marauder had the cool headstock, I'd buy one.hotrodperlmutter wrote:the supersonic is almost exactly based on the jaguar. that's a nice, tasteful design. they ruined it by flipping it over, but it's still not ugly. especially in the hands of a southpaw.honeyiscool wrote:It baffles me that people can diss the Marauder for looking like a hack job and being cobbled together from parts but then what does that make guitars like the Squier Supersonic and the Fender Jag Stang?

it's a weird guitar but it looks better than a jagstang. I think the Jagstang may be the ugliest design ever made. Kurt Cobain didn't even like it.

When the jag-stang was first made it was the only offset available with a humbucker which was partly the appeal for some players. Along with affordability over the Jaguar. It filled a gap in the market whether you cared for cobain or not.
I don't really see much point with this marauder but the Jaguar kind of makes sense, be even better if it was all mahogany with a set neck. I haven't read any of the spec but I'm guessing it isn't.

In what world is this:
a nice, tasteful design, where this:
is apparently the shittiest guitar ever? It just seems like far uglier guitars get loved around here, like the Supersonic, Jagstang, Bass VI, Tele (jk). Oh yeah, but the Bass VI is iconic, whereas this is not? It's still an ugly ass design. Lack of iconic status is hardly a reason not to try something new.
It's Mahogany with maple neck. But I wouldn't believe the specs sheet too much, considering they think that it has 21 frets.

It's kind of like a Fender Jagmaster but uglier and with a 22-fret neck, hah. I know, it makes no sense, but neither do a lot of my favorite guitars.Fran wrote:When the jag-stang was first made it was the only offset available with a humbucker which was partly the appeal for some players. I don't think that sentence was clear. I meant that the lack of a guitar having iconic status is no reason not to try something new, from the point of view of a guitar manufacturer. The consumer can do whatever he wants, of course.
I do suppose, however, that the new Marauder is actually quite close to the original Leo Fender concept in terms of body design:

Yeah, the comparison between the Squier and the Marauder is kind of stupid. The Squier was a budget instrument for teenagers into alternative rock. They couldn't put out a fully-featured Jaguar with humbuckers and trem and all the plates, so they took an extreme route and took the general body shape and flipped it. Instant alternative cred on a budget. Jobs a good'un. The Marauder will cost rather more than the Supersonic did when it was in production and looks as though somebody slipped when drawing out the Jaguar shape. It shares little with the original template it's based on because of a perceived lack of interest in the idiosyncratic nature of the Jaguar with it's trem, bridge and pickups, not because of the budgetary constraints of the target market. To compensate, they've slapped some monstrous humbucker in the bridge.
The Supersonic was just as ugly as the Marauder, but it dripped cool. The Marauder is a guitar designed for people who would never normally touch a Jaguar, and those people are basically the squares of the guitar world to shortscalers. They're the sort of people who post on the Fender forum. Fuck those guys.
