Supersonics are quite impressive looking irl. Pictures dont do them justice, they have a nice small body and look surprisingly well balanced on the player. My friend has a white one and it is very classy.
I'm impressed the Jaguar has a mahogany body, the design is now beginning to make more sense; warmer(?) tone with minimal controls is new as far as the Jaguar is concerned. Still in GT Toronado territory though.

Fair enough, it's just I think of Squier Vista guitars as Fenders because they pretty much are and they also go for a fortune.
I like the Venus and Jagmaster (obv) a lot, but not enough to pay for them. I think the Supersonics look like abortions. I mean, not a deformed abortion like an SX SJM, but still an abortion.
I think this Marauder is suffering from the "uncanny valley" issue here, much like the Pawn Shop Mustangs did. We all love Jags and Mustangs too much that anything that resembles them but aren't them look ugly, especially when the changes are slightly Stratty. I mean, we find Strat jacks to be offensive. Strat jacks! People actually generally like those. I think the average guitar lover doesn't find those variations to be as offensive and will find that these are decent looking guitars, fresh new takes from a company that gets blamed for not taking chances.
I also like the Jaguar quite a bit. I wonder if it's any lighter. I know it's mahogany, but if maybe it could be thinner or something? I don't like the volume pot placement. That's the only thing I dislike about it. It's a no-nonsense guitar and looks better than a Toronado IMO.

Seriously? That's incredible I would have expected these to be way more expensive. Look at Fender, doing something new, and doing it affordably... what the hell is goin on?

I'm really pleased at that price but F on the headstock does'nt mean everything, not worth getting too excited until you actually play one.
The recent affordable Gibson Specials got torn a new arsehole in the guitar magazines (the same guitar magazines that Gibson monopolize) and it was made clear they dont hold a candle to decent Epiphones.

Yep, those Gibsons were proper dogshit. Guitarist magazine managed to call them what they are, ugly planks of shit, and yet throw in the caveat that they were still "bags of fun", like the cowardly arselickers they are. Imagine chucking them an Encore constructed to the same standard and they'd give it one star and recommended taking a chainsaw with you whenever you go guitar shopping in case you see one on a shelf.Fran wrote:I'm really pleased at that price but F on the headstock does'nt mean everything, not worth getting too excited until you actually play one.

Fuck anyone who hates on the SuperSonic. That guitar, when flipped back to lefty, is hands down my favorite, most comfortable guitar ever. The balance even with the strap button moved back to the upper horn when flipped is so perfect, it's so easy to just toss around while playing.Fran wrote:Supersonics are quite impressive looking irl. After I finish having the Broncostang built (wood is ordered!), I'm going to start a project to build a true lefty copy of my Supersonic body, with a proper neck heel.
Best guitar ever, haters can GTFO.

the vista series was built in the same fucking factory and used all the same fender parts that the fender classic series did at the same time rolling out of the exact same factory those 2 years.
a brand new supersonic / jagmaster in 1996 cost you 650 bucks. it wasn't cheap. it was made with quality fender japan parts, it was a fender japan guitar with a squier sticker on it.
again they weren't a budget guitar in any way. they were made of the same exact materials that the fender japan guitars were made of. they were 650 dollars USD. a squier bullet back then was about 70 bucks brand new. that is a budget guitar for teenagers. back then you could get a classic series (mij) jaguar for 800 or a supersonic for 650.ekwatts wrote:Yeah, the comparison between the Squier and the Marauder is kind of stupid. The Squier was a budget instrument for teenagers into alternative rock. They couldn't put out a fully-featured Jaguar with humbuckers and trem and all the plates, so they took an extreme route and took the general body shape and flipped it. Instant alternative cred on a budget.
back in 1996 if you were 16 you could buy a decent used car for 500 bucks. a super sonic cost more than a car. you had to save your cash all fucking year if you wanted one. to 90% of american teenagers its car/supersonic. thats why the pulled the line. the quality was too high, the price was too high. the shops couldn't make any money on them and they just sat there. the supersonic i bought at HOG for 500 in 2002 sat there in the shop for 6 years before i said fuck it i have to have this thing. teenagers weren't buying these guitars. they cost too much. they couldn't buy them until they had a good job and were 25 years old
people are so fucking hung up on a god damn sticker. i cant believe it. people think that everything squier makes is for kids / beginners / poor people. thats just wrong.

back then a mexican FENDER strat cost 300 bucks. you could get that and be mr cool man fucking bro dude with FENDER on your guitar, or for twice as much you could get a super sonic that was made with better parts, more solid, looked cooler, but had SQUIER on the headstock and get picked on by everyone. "nice squiiiiiierrrr dude hahah looser, you should sell that and get a fender" that kinda shit happened every day. 9/10 times the kid is going to go with the 300 dollar FENDER because it has a FENDER sticker on it and is viewed as better, even though its a piece of fucking shit with bullshit sharp fret ends, tuners that suck fucking balls, and other sorts of other ill shit like a neck thats not 24" scale.
ITS STILL HAPPENING WITH ASSHOLES ON THIS BOARD RIGHT NOW. GET THE FUCK OVER IT, YOU ARE ACTING LIKE YOU ARE 15 FUCKING YEARS OLD. GROW UP.
this isn't just anyone telling you to grow up, its rob fucking roe to telling you grow up of all people. the one man on earth fighting growing up more than any other man.
so at least you know i mean it because i wouldn't say it to myself let alone anyone else ever for anything. other than this.

that wasn't how i meant it- regardless of where it was made it isn't officially a fender guitar, it's a squier. doesn't mean it's poorly made, it's just not in the fender line.robroe wrote:stewart wrote:i think jagstangs and supersonics are rotten too, but the supersonic is a squier so it's not really the same thing in my mind. i dunno, maybe it's because fender stopped being fender 35657357 years ago, their (very few and far between) new designs just leave me cold most of the time.

and i've got two squier guitars that i'd happily use onstage or to record with (and have done), so fuck off.

why isn't it a fender guitar? lets all say it together everyone......BECAUSE OF A STICKER.
i don't give a flying fuck what you play on stage. I've played a drunken clown on stage wearing generic red size 14 fake converse that i got at Kmart. and im the biggest converse snob on this board who cares. you don't have to explain yourself to me. its not what you do in real life, i cant see any of that. all i can see is what you type. so thats exactly how you come across

robroe wrote:you're picking it up wrong. whether or not a sticker is the only difference, you'll never see a supersonic on the fender site, even if they were still made. because it's a squier guitar, made officially by squier.stewart wrote:robroe wrote: that wasn't how i meant it- regardless of where it was made it isn't officially a fender guitar, it's a squier.

and no, i don't have to explain myself, but when you start accusing me and 'others' of being snobby dicks i'll choose to expand on my point, if that's ok with you.

I fucking remember doing a show where some dude was playing a vista jagmaster and this dude by me was like, "this guy's playing a fucking squier!?!" and he just pieced out, didn't even give them a chance cuz rhythm guitarist had a squier.
I've been using a Squier Tele Deluxe in MC for a while now, we shot a video and this guy says something like "i wont get your headstock in the frame, its only a Squier lol". Fucking clueless idiot.
Vista, MIJ and MIK Squier's are some of the best guitars i have ever owned in 20 years. True fact.
