Epiphone Dot - Pelham Blue

Post by Ankhanu »

I went to my local music shop today and they had a couple of the new Epiphone custom shop Pelham blue series guitars; the Dot, Les Paul, Special II and EB-0. I didn't touch the Paul's, but tried the Dot and bass (unplugged). The EB-0 was ok, but the balance was awkward. The Dot felt/played incredibl(e/y). It was priced at $440Cdn, which I thought was a decent price. Other than the gold knobs, the finish is stunning...

Anyone here have experience with them? Are they decent plugged in? Worth the price?

Needs white/cream knobs BADLY.

If my home(s) burned down today and I only had a few hundred bucks to get a new electric, it would probably be an Epi Dot. They play well, look great, and always sound solid. Some I've encountered are a bit muddy in the bass, but I think that's just part of the design.

Hmm, yeah, white/cream would be the way to go. IIRC, the binding was white, so, probably go that direction.
I was trying to figure out what knobs would be a better fit, and chrome, black or speed knobs just weren't doin' it.

i wish epiphone would step it up and do an 333 rear access panel on the dots. otherwise, unless you're super ambitious, you're stuck with the pickups that come with them.

so these have white binding? on pelham? that's kind of weird...

Here's the first/best shot I found showing the edge of the guitar:

You can kinda see the binding there. It doesn't really show along the top edge

Yeah, could be. The white balance in those shots is off, though, and towards yellow (take a look at the chrome) (and the top one with the black knobs/white switch is a Gibson, I think). I'll take another look next week, if they still have it.

but you know what, fuck the dot, buy one of these

That is pretty nice... but doesn't fill the semi-hollow, double humbucker niche, though ;)
I'm not sure how much I'd play a Jr.; I don't use my bridge pickup alone very often, I usually play neck or neck+bridge... as such a bridge only config is kinda suboptimal.

That looks nice. I've never seen the epi pelham in person, but the Epi Dots are really nice guitars. My brother's friend bought one and put Gibson pickups in it and it sounded just as good as every Gibson hollowbody I've ever played.

There was a moment when the drill heat, saw dust, and paint particles combined for a nice little "poof" explosion inside the control cavity.

This one looks like it's a Gibson to be honest. If you compare it to the other photos you posted. It has a different jack placement, different knobs and a black switch tip.

I've only seen that jack placement on the 339's though, which you can't get in Pelham Blue. As far as I know anyway.

Lovely colour mind!

I suppose so, in that they're both based on the 335 and are finished in Pelham Blue...

I think with the good old string trick, rewiring a semi/hollow wouldn't be too bad. also, be sure to make a layout of the pots and wire them in a layout.

This is a Gibson es-339 from The Music Zoo who had them for sale in this color.
