HNGD 1966 Fender XII

Post by kapepepper »

hi eveybody

like some of you know, I was in the market for someting sixties-ish fender-gibson

I came across several guitars: a 65 mustang that was not a 65 mustang :), a fender strat 1977 (almost broke my back taking that guitar out the case), a gibson L6 midnight special something (nice guitar but not really exciting)
then I saw an ad for this fender XII from 1966

not really looking for a 12 string but knowing that the guitar can and is used as a six string i went and look for the guitar
yup, there was a lot of excitement when i saw the guitar very light weight, neck was a bit thicker then my 66 coronado but similar to my es 135
, nice condition (some relic which is normal) original case, instruction manual, well difficult to resist

I did the (first) owner an offer (similar to what you should pay for an fender avri series in europe) and he accepted and went home with this beauty:

it is set up now as a six string but as soon as I have time will put some 12 strings on it

cheers!

Nice score. I really want one of those. I hope to one day get one so I can take apart the bridge to see how it works.

I just bought a butchered pickguard from one I hope to make a template of.

A charming piece, in great shape!

Really is right up there with being one of those "ultimate" guitars.

over the weekend i put 12 strings on it

JEZUS! What a difference!!

it is a very pschydelic sound and every time you strum you think you are playing starway to heaven :)

but the guitar sound well as a six string but obviously it comes to live with 12 strings

HA! that's JUST the reason i play my XII as a 6-stringer... it has a very unique sound, and i think, somehow, when i play 12 strings all i can think of is stairway and hotel california.
btw, mine's a '66 quite like yours, but with less damage. almost too clean for my taste, actually.

but they're amazing guitars.

i'd never pay so much money for a retarded looking headstock just to check. i was merely curious about someone who has owned one.
