Old pedal night - Soundtank DL5

Post by NickS »

Mark from the local jam gave me one of his 3 Ibanez Soundtank DL5s to rehouse & make more reliable. I spent some time researching and gave him the results last night. It's an early model and the switch glitchiness should be fixable with a bigger de-bounce cap. Re-housing, because the PCB is just a bit bigger and he'd like true bypass etc., etc., would cost around £25-£30 in parts and mean quite a big box. At the end of the evening he showed me the Carbon Copy he'd been trying out and told me to keep the DL-5 for my trouble.

This version uses an echo chip designed for karaoke machines. It seems that I chould be able to piggy-back DRAM chips and extend the delay time from the default 400 ms to 800 ms, 1.2 s or even 1.6 s. Finally, a use for those 64k x1 DRAMs I've been hoarding for years!

I had one of those. It really wasn't bad at all! I would've kept it if it weren't for the switch trouble.

Reminds me I have a HM-5 Soundtank somewhere, switch is knackered on that, now only a momentary instead of a latch. Will need to fix it someday.

if they are the same switches that are in the 7 series, small bear carries them. I replaced the switch in my TS7 and it works great now.

Nick, how much would you roughly charge me to fix an Ibanez FZ5? Its one of my favorite Fuzz pedals, quite rare, but now hums/noisy despite still working.

Mates rates, obviously.
Is the hum power-related? Do you still get it with a battery?
