I got in some router time today. I got the tremolo routed out and installed. I still need to get some wooden dowels made to fill the hardtail mount holes. I basically just need some springs and screws to mount the WRHB and then wire it all up. I put her back together to see how it's progressing.

My ex college roommate who plays guitar and is an Electrical engineer is going to help me get the wiring right on Wednesday night. I hope I like the WRHB sound since I have never found a HB I have fallen for; though the pups in the Pawnshop Mustang are nice.

We got the WRHB all wired up and installed along with the phase switch. Unfortunately the 3 way pickup switch basically fell apart. I could hear the WRHB in the bridge on the lead circuit and the neck pup in the Rhythm circuit. So I have no idea if the phase switch works until I get a new 3 way switch. I also need to order a capacitor to reinstall the strangle switch. I actually dig the humbucker. That's a first for me. The 1 meg pots brighten it up and the tone knob is really noticeable . One I fix the wiring issues I am basically done. I will need another pickguard at some point down the line as well. I will demo it and the Mulletstang once I fix the electronics up.

What are you talking about? It's a RI neck pickup out of a 72 Tele Deluxe.hotrodperlmutter wrote:just to be clear: that's not a Wide Range Humbucker.

ha, so it is! i thought i had remembered you talking about getting a GFS split coil and didn't notice the Fender etching on the front, nor the quad mounting screws, or the fact that it's fucking huge! color me stupid!
looks great, either way. interested to hear your thoughts on a neck pickup in the bridge position.

I forgot to take the plastic off the pickup, so it's harder to see the Fender Logo. I was talking about split coils for the Jag-stang Project.hotrodperlmutter wrote:ha, so it is! i thought i had remembered you talking about getting a GFS split coil and didn't notice the Fender etching on the front, nor the quad mounting screws, or the fact that it's fucking huge! color me stupid!

I only played it for a few minutes but I am glad I went with the neck WRHB to keep the bridge from being too hot compared to the bridge. The bridge is jangly with the 1 meg pots and doesn't sound out of place. I really need to fix the 3 way switch before I can give very much feedback. I am also glad the Jag trem came out so well.

I finally got all the wiring issues sorted out.
The 3 way switch literally fell apart when I was wiring in the WRHB, so I replaced it. I also wired in a capacitor to bring back the Strangle switch.
So the switches operate as follows:
3 way switch - pickup selection
middle switch - phase switch when both pickups are selected
last switch - strangle switch.
It sounds amazing. The AVRI Jag neck pup sound great and the WRHB adds so beef to the bridge while keeping that Jaguar treble goodness. The middle position sound awesome when you combine the pickups together. The out-of-phase sound is the best I have heard on a guitar. Beats my Baja Tele. Extremely useful and useable sound. The strangle switch is great with the WRHB if you want to tone it down a knotch.
Overall I think it's a winning combination of pickups and switching options. I will demo once I get the pickguard swapped out. I bought a new Mint guard so I can clean up the mess around the WRHB.
It does buzz when I am not touching the strings or metal plate. I wonder what I need to ground to get the buzzing to stop. How do they typically ground a Jaguar? I hear it in all positions including the WRHB.

You can ground a Jag either at the bridge or with a wire touching the vibrato. It looks great.taylornutt wrote: It does buzz when I am not touching the strings or metal plate. Do I ground it from the bridge/vibrato to the body itself or to the ground on one of the pots?weed_killer wrote:You can ground a Jag either at the bridge or with a wire touching the vibrato. but it might be a good idea to put some tinfoil or something in the route for the trem plate as well

I finished her up last night. I replaced the Mint guard to clean up the rough hole around the humbucker. Unfortunately the new mint guard is not as minty as the old one. I also had to move the pickup closer to the bridge for the mounting holes. I also ran the ground wire from the trem plate to one of the pots, though I am not sure if anything improved.
I will photograph and demo later tonight. No I can turn my attention to finishing up the Mullet-stang.
