CIJ Jaguar's

Post by daverichards »

hi guys,

i'm looking to be in the market to purchase a jag (well it could be a tele/jag/jazz, but jag is the favourite at the minute)

for my budget (£500) the CIJ looks like the jag for me..

in terms of used ones, what is there to look out for on shit ones?

also, i've found a '62 RI JG66' is this anything of note?

cheers for the help guys
Does love his custom tele.

i know someone called dave richards. do you live in thailand for 6 months of the year, by any chance?

you should easily be able to pick up a CIJ/MIJ jag for £500, they're pretty solid. there aren't really any shit jaguars, apart from maybe those squier ones with the strat jacks that came out recently (fair bit of bad press).

JG66 is just the model name/ what is stamped on the heel of the neck. They are all the same model, none of them are shit. I don't think there are any years to look out for, though brass plate shielding is somewhat desirable [my '94-'95 has it]. It's really all about what color you want, CAR is the easiest to find, along with sunburst. I would kill for a black or blue MIJ jag.

They are all 1962 RIs at heart, differing from the MIA version in electronics, quality of parts, and no mute attached to the bridge.

i thought the JG66 was the blocked/bound version? or is that the "big block," or whatever the fuck?

Naw, the blocked+bound version is the JG66B. The JG66 is the plain vanilla Jap Jaguar. I think. Unless I'm as mistaken as you. Now I'm doubting it.

Oh wait, the JG65B just has neck binding. They don't make the blocks version anymore as far as I can tell and I don't know the name for that one. But the regular Jag is the JG66.

Suppose i should mention it...

Just note the CIJ/MIJ Jaguar bridge does bother some people, to the point of selling the guitar on sometimes. The newer MIM 'Classic Player' models have a few factory modifications that have been done to improve this.
For under £500 these are the two models i'd personally look at, i would'nt entertain the Squiers or Blacktops, but thats just my opinion. A USA one would be the best but they are way out of your budget.

You should be able to find a CIJ model on London Gumtree or Ebay.

With a budget of 500 you can pretty much afford a decent secondhand CIJ plus new PUPS and a Mustang bridge. I got offered one the other day (with Mustang bridge) for 350 the other day and stupidly passed. For 500 you could probably get a secondhand Classic Player, that's what I'd be hunting for.

Hi, please don't set up sales outside of the Classifieds forum with new members who cannot see that forum yet, for your sake.

Of course, you're free to do this transaction, I just don't want to see a lot of this happening around here.

And no offense meant to either party, just gotta insert the disclaimer about this.
