Tokyo is an amazing place for guitars

Post by JJLipton »

I went to Shibuya this weekend and went to this place. In the basement they have an epic high end guitar room.

If you look closely, you can see the Jimmy Page CA in the corner. My jaw dropped.

Most of those fenders arent production models. A closer inspections revealed they are custom shop pieces. They had a lot of master built ones too.

Plus more pics on the site. I played an Al Dimeola prism there which was amazing through an Engl Powerball. The staff was really friendly and let me try it out, even though i obviously couldn't afford the guitar.

I also went to another shop, and played this beauty.

1959 VOS. One of the best flames i've seen.

WOW. Puts all the guitar shops round here to shame. You've got to wonder how many they actually sell though.

I loved shopping around the guitar stores in Tokyo. Can't wait to go back!

Enough to maintain a large inventory within a large commercial space in a high rent city?

How do prices over there generally compare to the US or UK?

The prices are about the same for gibsons and fenders. PRS, Musicman, etc are more expensive because of their relative rarity here. The yen is strong now though, so these days its better to buy in your own country.
