I used a dark mahogany stain from here: http://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/pro ... tm#tabstop
I just got the small 50ml sample pot and I still only used half of it for two coats. I moistened the wood first with a small pieces of foam bandaged up in a piece cut from a well-worn in white t-shirt then went to town, making sure to keep wiping until all the streaks of dye had sunk in nicely. It was dry to the touch in fifteen minutes so I slapped another coat on. Wherever I hadn't masked the binding up sufficiently it just wiped off afterwards as it wouldn't dry on such a smooth surface. I'm slightly concerned over masking off the f-hole binding when I spray the black. For the outer body binding I was going to mask off all I could of the sides and then scrape the black nitro off the tip of the binding on the front with a blade after drying. Not sure if that's a good idea. It's just so thin that I'm not sure I'd be able to mask it off properly. I'm sure I'll figure something out. Tomorrow I think I'll start spraying the sealer. I also need to grab the pearloid for the headstock soon so I can start on that, too.
Teardrop progress.

Oh and the neck is from Eden on eBay. They make lots of pickguards and stuff, too.
The real test will be when I put strings on it and check it out. Most of the larger block inlays down the neck fell out almost as soon as I unwrapped it so I had the glue them back in flush. And the rosewood was super, super DRY. I've lemon oiled it and seems a bit livelier at least now. But sticking strings on will bring out any dead frets if they're there. Hopefully not.
