On the internet I'll say it looks ugly.

But if I saw it in a shop I probably wouldn't be able to walk away from it and would end up buying it.

I never seen one in person, only on the internet.

That shop in the photo I've been to, it's a cool shop. They used to have an old Gibson Les Paul burst in a display case, and they sold second hand records and hi-fi equipment.

Looks like they just used their pre and post "lawsuit" "Les Paul" necks. I wonder if they made any with a Moderne style headstock.

Funky pickguard is funky!

I can't justify the reasoning, but it I ever came across anything that looks like a Moderne, something tells me I'd start banging out the first Foo Fighters tune that came to mind at the moment.

I remember reading that Gibson Modernes are so rare that the only real original '50s Gibson one is not considered as such, because it was a prototype salvaged from their skips in pieces and finished by an employee at home (Gibson cut up their unused bodies/necks before throwing them out to discourage this exact practice)... does that guitar really exist? Anyone seen pics of it?

No, only rumors.

I've never seen one or met anybody who claims to have seen one.

There was a rumor Billy Gibbons had an original but I think that was just a myth he was putting out there. I know he has an Ibanez, and some custom made ones.

dude, back in the early 2000's or so epiphone made versions of all those funky gibson models. Mars Music had some!
they were in that series when they had the cool metal badge on the headstock. all those guitars seemed to have fucking sucked from what i played.

More info on the Epiphone E-Series. I really, really liked the way the 'slasher' looks, but that shit played like a fucking 2x4.

I don't believe these were ever released. They had them on the website under new products but I never saw them for sale anywhere.

Yep, his was the first place I saw the Ibanez versions... I think he has an '80s Gibson one and fibs about it.

His customs are sweet

Yeah, Epi put out a regular-style Moderne for 2001 but it was gone by the end of the year with only about 300 shipped, so even those are pretty rare.

I think the guy who wrote this book claims to have a photo of an original Moderne on a Gibson Factory workbench. I have never seen that photo. But then again I haven't read that book, yet.
