Hidden/Forgotten Gems on a budget

I was wondering which guitars people have come across that are excellent quality and value for money.
In terms of Fender i'd have to say Musicmasters here, in the UK you can pick one up for under Â£350, its a vintage guitar and the neck alone is superb.

I'd personally vote for these three on my experiences;

1. Peavey Predator USA. You can still get these for under Â£100 and they will give most Strats a run for their money. Superb neck and total quality.

2. Yamaha SG200. The no frills MIJ model that delivers all the tone of the more expensive models. No longer dirt cheap but you still find them for around Â£200. Mine easily held its own with my friends Gibson SG Standard.

3. Westone Spectrum ST. Matsumoku made, the neck has an almost vintage Mustang feel but with larger frets. Superbly made and still available s/h for under Â£100.

squier CV tele/strat - one does not need another guitar and will spend under $300.

i feel like a guitar should be a replica of the super expensive/classic/iconic styles, but not sacrifice playability. if someone wants to play like keef, and gets an affinity blonde tele with serrated fret ends, they're not going to bother saving up $200 again just to take a gamble at getting a better guitar.

if they know they can spend $300 and get as close as possible, and maybe never have to upgrade, i think they'd do that first. plus, you can be a seasoned vet and have a blast on either guitar, and not say OH SQUIER WOT SHIT, etc.

An SG200 would be my next guitar if i found some cash down the back of the sofa.

Btw fran the only musicmasters I keep spotting on eBay are Â£1000+ please send me any you see at Â£350!

I sent Dan Herron a link for one the other week, a 78 model, went for about Â£310

I am gonna say Gordon Smith guitars are excellent value for money.

Do they use sustainable woods? Yes.
Do they have a brass nut? Yes.
Do they have one piece maple necks? Yes.
Do they have nitrocellulose finishes? Yes.

Pick one up for Â£250 to Â£500, i got one for â‚¬200 recently

That was pretty much my second guitar, it was awesome !!!

I think it was GT though with a middle pickup and in red.

Every Nirvana song was learnt on one of them, good days !!

Musicmasters do seem to be the best priced vintage fenders. I would get one but not sure if I want a 1 pickup guitar..

Was my first guitar, in 199ish, same colours and everything.
I still have a pathological fear of strat trems, possably because of this, or maybe my second guitar.
