Your favourite delay and why

Ok what's peoples favourite delay (past and present) and why? Is it a digital clean repeater or analogue prone to self oscillation?

RV3... It does a lot pretty well. Sounds proper 80s which I love, and not dark like analogue delays which is bonus for most of the sounds I make.

Tough call, one of these two;
1. Dod PDS 2000. Simple to use and i love the sample playback function of the second switch.
2. Vesta Fire Digital Delay. The most tweakable delay i have ever tried or owned, has an immense range and the sound quality is really hi-fi.

DD100. you can turn the feedback and time knobs toward each other and get this crazy siren noise and then slowly tweak it into sonic madness.

i do this on the daily.

If we can include multieffects--M9. Lots of different types of delays (I've read that it pretty much has all of the delays a DL4 has, but I've never used a DL4) and they're all pretty good. It even emulates self-oscillation like the DE7 does. And of course, you can combine different delays or have multiple instances of the same delay type.

If it's just a standalone delay pedal, I think I'd have go with the DE7. It doesn't have a modulated delay setting which is a bummer, but I really love it on the echo setting. And the delay setting is a good digital delay.

Maxon AD999. Itâ€™s no secret that I often buy and sell pedals however this has remained on my pedal board from the day I bought it about 4 years ago to now. It has a lovely full, warm analog delay sound and has the benefit of having an extra long delay time, up to 9 seconds I believe, that other analog delays do not have. This makes it a lot more versatile than other analog delays I have used in the past.

Another mention goes to the Boss DD7 that I bought recently. The analog setting on this pedal (modelled after one of the Boss analog delays) gives the AD999 a good run for its money (I even thought about selling the AD999 because of this) however it wonâ€™t do the self oscillation thing that the AD999 does. It also has range of settings all of which sound great, (modulation, reverse, hold and tap tempo) plus the regular digital delays are less harsh sounding than I remember the 2 DD3â€™s I have had in the past did.

i must admit im a real sucker for my danelectro reel echo. it aint perfect by any strecth of the imagination but every time i look down i just think fuck that looks the dogs bollox. thats in my originals band. my covers band i find the boss dd3 is a bit clearer and more useful

i would LOVE LOVE LOVE a memory man but it aint gonna happen.

Originally bought mine $25 used/ bought back for $35.

These are pretty good Bucket Brigade style delays. unfortunately, they have a rather narrow range of useable settings in regards to what most people would agree are standard delay sounds but whatever it does, it always comes out sounding very organic and lively. As a delay, I used this mostly to wash out vocals, to add warmth to drum mixes and as a surrogate reverb on guitars BUT as a bonus, the input levels can be messed with to get thundering, cascading overdrive out of the op amps or can be further pushed into a hard clip by running a boost in front of it.

I absolutely love this thing. I actually bought this back from a guy I had traded it with last year for 10 dollars more than I originally payed (which I have a hard time doing, out of principle) but it's totally worth it to me.

Memory Man with Hazarai - Easily the most versatile delay pedal I've used. Can tailor your sound as much as you like which is pretty cool. It's not going to win points for the most hi-fi delay out there but it is a pretty nifty tool to have on your pedalboard.

Also, favourable mentions go to the T-Rex Delay, other end of the spectrum in terms of clarity, can get some amazing clean delay repeats as well as a cool psuedo analogue delay with the help of the 'Brown' button. Also, the Boss DD-5 was probably the best Boss pedal I owned until I sold it to fund the T-Rex.

Stereo Memory Man

I have been using the same one for 5 years for guitar and vocals (sometimes) has yet to let me down.

I also have one of those Boss Space Echoes but its hard to get it to do anything consistently.

Have had the Carbon Copy on my board for quite a while and don't see myself changing it really. Nice warm analog sounds and the modulation is nice and subtle.
On the digital front I always loved my Guyatone MD-3, small no nonsense pedal. One of the few things I regret selling.

my favorite delay, is without a doubt, the original tube Echoplex.

i had access to one for several years, when i lived in florida.
but it was notoriously bad tempered, and was a PITA

but what a sound.

now, i've settled on a Yamaha DG Stomp.

it has a 'tape delay' setting, and with all the controls, i can dial it in just how i like it.
i use it in the fx loop of my mesa mark2b.

Haven't used delay enough to have a favourite, but I use this (on SS recommendation)

You can make it make the creaky noise the predator makes.

The rest of the guys in the band use these:

Pretty fucking decent from the time I've had to fuck about on them.

Nova Delay, almost[/a] any sound i need and its a great hi-fi digital delay that sounds great for recording and cuts through in a live situation.
The carbon copy is second, its one of the few pedals that i regret selling. Thom summed it up perfectly already. I have yet to try out a Memory Man.

I really love my DD-6 and all of the modes it has. The hold mode is really great for making stuttery glitchy sounds. The delay on the PS-3 is very good too; if the feedback knob is put to max it won't overload, great for making fun textures. My PS-3 might be my favourite pedal.

I've been jonesing after a Dano Reel Echo for a while now. The Spring King is silly good for a reverb, and I love the layout and setup of the Reel Echo. Only disadvantage is the huuuuuge size, which is bigger than a large EHX pedal.
