Its a common thing. Strat trems are great when you know how to set one up and these were not poor quality by any means on the Westones. BUT, most of us started out on a guitar with a Strat trem.... the thing sucked and went out of tune. Verdict=shit.

I got a SG200 with a repaired neck for $70. Plays like buttah. I started refinishing it and got sidetracked. Hopefully I'll get a little time during the holidays to finish it.

I made a thread before, but I picked up an Ibanez GAX70 a while back for $80 that was until I finished my Musicmaster, my favorite guitar. They play really nicely and sound great. If you find one, get one.

I can only speak for mine, but the 80's Ibanez guitars like the Prolines and Roadstars are great quality for the money. I got my '86 PL1770 proline for 250$ and I haven't had any problems with it at all so far. If you're a floyd person it's great, it's damn near impossible to find a decent quality floyd-equipped guitar these days for that budget that isn't completely stripped down cosmetically.

That is a good idea although they don't come up that often in the UK, especially not hacked up ones.

if you get a 60s one they are already routed for the bridge pickup. just buy an aftermarket duo guard and the mod is completely reversible.

Has anybody mentioned Tokai? I've always managed to find something pretty tasty whenever I've done an eBay search. Not always particularly cheap, but good stuff. The Paisley Teles, Strats and Les Pauls are excellent alternatives to the Fender versions.

I just found this, too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tokai-Strat-g ... 419wt_1420

Too expensive for me for what it is, but it's pretty fucking hot.

Good guitars but the MIJ models are no longer 'budget' in terms of price.

Oh yeah, definitely, but you can occasionally grab a few secondhand 80s and early 90s models for about £300, or even lower. At least, that's how much the ones I miss go for, anyway...
