Neck for a Custom Musicmaster

I am building my own Body, a clone of a Musicmaster. I need a neck, and would like to go with a 24" neck. I was even thinking of using a squier mini 22.5 neck...

are there any ideas out there? i would love the warmouth, but building a budget build. Squier is ok for me right now.....

any thoughts? think cheap....

Musicmaster necks are typically cheaper than Mustang necks (same neck..different sticker). I found my 1972 Music Master neck for $125 on ebay. Check ebay for Musicmaster necks.

If you want 24"scale, Musicmaster II necks (1965-1970ish) and Musicmaster necks (later) will do. Any Student model neck (Mustang, Bronco, Duo Sonic II) will also work for a compatible 24" scale neck. I picked up my 1969 Mustang neck for $120 on ebay, refinished and put a sticker on it and it plays amazing.

i was thinking a lot cheaper than that. Squier necks... that would come later when I have more $$$ to put into it. I just want to play it now. and cant becasue of a neck.

i was thinking of putting a strat neck for a temp.... baritone... haha...

is there a list somewhere of what squier necks are 24"? and that have the same strat/mustang heal pocket.... i have not cut the neck hole yet.

You're not gonna find many MM/Jag/Mustang dimension necks cheaper than $120. You can get an unfinished AllParts Jaguar neck for around $130-140 if you look around, and that's really the best you can expect. They're great necks, too, specs are vintage accurate.

The only MM/Jag/Mustang dimension Squier necks are the old Vista Jagmaster necks and the new Squier Jaguar necks. Neither are cheap and the new Squier Jaguar necks don't have vintage dimensions.

It is hard to find any good neck for under $120.

Word. The cheapest I found for a lefty neck was Guitarmill and that was $220, unfinished with an A width.

So has anybody used a Squier Mini neck? its 22.5 and its actually nice. looks like it would bolt right up. at used ones are like 50-75.

I love the nice fenders, but squiers are good beaters.

I put together all three of these builds using Squier Mini Strat necks. I actually love the feel of the Mini Strat necks. The bridge needs to be moved a tad to compensate but it isn't
noticeable if you use a custom pickguard.

very nice. With my Musicmaster clone i am using a tornado thru bridge. and a standard musicmaster pickguard. i was hoping to not move the bridge.

did you move the bridge on all 3? and move it which way?

Yes, all three bridges set a wee bit further back from the neck than the originals did.
But these are bodies that I made so I could place the bridge where I needed it to be.
If you're using a Fender body for your project you'll need to measure to make sure.
If you don't have a Squier Mini Strat neck yet I can measure mine and let you know where the bridge saddles will need to fall
and you can see if you have enough saddle adjustment to leave the bridge where it's at.

im making my own musicmaster, and i have already built the body, just dont have a neck yet, and have not placed the bridge yet. I would like to go with a 24 neck... all i have is a strat neck... anybody want to trade? haha

is there a guide somewhere of where the bridge should be placed? i was just planning on getting the pickguard and it should fall into place....

I've used the Squier Mini necks before. They're actually pretty good. $99 bucks gets you the whole guitar.

yeah, i have been thinking that. but, it would give it a different scale. i was looking for a 24 scale. i was thinking a jagmaster, but noticed they have the 70's headstocks. i was looking to build a musicmaster II, so not sure if jagmaster and mmII have the same headstk's

a jagmast neck is a conversion neck, so the bridge would have to placed on the body for a 25.5 inch scale guitar.

so, you could put a jagmaster neck on a strat and make it a 24" strat but you can't put it on a mustang or jaguar or music master and make it intonate.

its a conversion neck? i thought it was just a standard 24 neck and pop it right on my MM.

frick, i just want a Musicmaster.... i have the body and everything ready to go... haha

5) A 25.5" scale Fender duosonic/musicmaster/mustang/jaguar is possible but using a standard 25.5" scale, 21 fret neck you would need to move the bridge farther from the neck.

Here are a few questions:

Can a 24" scale, 21 fret neck Squier Classic Vibe duosonic or Jagmaster II (08-10) directly replace the 22.7" scale, 20 fret neck on the Squier mini or Fender/Squier MIM/MIC duosonic?

Was the Jagstang a 24" scale, 22 frets, or 24.75" scale, 22 frets, or both?

new jagmasters are conversion necks. the only squiers with true 24" necks are the original vista jagmaster and the current squier jaguar.

I used a vista jagmaster neck on my Mustang thingy and it is fantastic. I just scored another off ebay for $70 that I am not sure if is Vista or not. I did a rough hold em up beside one another and they seem same. If you are going top load, fixed bridge you can always just set it where you need it. If you are going from scratch worst you may have to deal with is a small gap somewhere or maybe trimming a bit of pickguard.
