G100 212 II & a "free" Duo Sonic

Post by rps-10 »

First (and hopefully last acquisition of the year) A Yamaha G100 212 Series 2 came up ebay the other day with a good BIN price, also included was a hacked Duo Sonic! It has a Squier strat neck on it, an old chunky one :D

Amp is great, unlike a Fender solid state which only does one volume of too fucking loud, the G100 will play nicely at low house & neighbour friendly volumes. It does great with pedals too as its like a solid state Twin.

The Duo has already been bagged by Ian of Ghosteffects (via Twitter, no dodgy deal done outside of Shortscale classifieds here) it's covered in sticker residue, front and back, plus the switching is "non standard" -- KILL/Both/Bridge  Which I'm sure he can rectify to his own needs, plus I think Ian will be looking for a shortscale neck for it.

Saw that on eBay, didn't have the cash.

The Duo won't intonate, will it?

It measures bang on 25.5" I've only had a quick mess with it this morning before work (was testing a suspected problem with the amp) but its sounds ok. I guess if you start playing chords up past the 12th fret you may have some issues. I've no idea what scale this Duo was before it got the strat neck and the seller didn't seem to know either. The 3 saddle bridge would be the main obstacle in obtaining perfect intonation I guess... I'm not that pedantic about intonation myself

Loved the earlier pics of it and the goo looked lovely

most of the goo is gone now, the stuff on the scratchplate is proving stubborn though!

Ah! That Yamaha model was my first amp!

It was pretty good too, although the dirt channel got a bit temperamental after a while. It did indeed take pedals well. Not too heavy either. Well, a bit heavy. Haven't seen one of those for years.
