Are Bugera any decent? Unrelated I know but I was looking at their Ampeg SVT clone, but the only info I could find were the dorks on talkbass talking shit about it.

my experience with talk bass is that a lot the people on it are gear snobs with multiple luthier basses so i never use it anymore. the v55 sounded great when cobascis had it so i would assume the svt copy would be of equally quality but dont hold me on that

Yeah that's the impression I got after reading for like 5 minutes.

Cobascis, what went wrong with your two? I've had pretty meh experience with Behringer stuff (usually good products but it'll be one or two components that crap out prematurely and can't really be fixed.), and quite frankly I'm a little scared to spend over $600 on potentially dodgy product.

Honestly can't remember it is probably documented on the forum here somewhere. One was with channel switching and one was with some background noise best I can recall.

I owned a V55HD head for a while - the overdrive channel wasn't much cop but the clean channel was Delicious and took pedals really well.

I bought Mike's V55 and sold it to Boab. Maybe give him a shout and ask what he thinks. As Mike said, the clean channel was great but the OD was meh. Just don't stick any masking tape to the tolex.

As the guys have said above, the Bugera v55HD sounds brilliant through the clean channel. I really avoid using the OD channel when I can, because it is pretty poor, but the clean channel takes pedals well enough that you won't need it. I can't speak for how it sounds with either the speaker in the combo or the original valves, but mine sounds brilliant for any price. And it's been left in a pretty poorly insulated mate's garage for over 2 winters now and is still functioning perfectly, so the usual complaints over reliability aimed at Bugera/Behringer haven't applied to me.

Definitely a brilliant amp, and I'd highly recommend it at this price if you're thinking about. Takes pedals really well, and can get mighty loud.

I had a not so great experience with my head version. The reverb had a glitchy sound that would get "waves" of noise.

And there's the problem with buying Bugera. There are gonna be duds out there which do have faulty parts.

beware that molex connector will prob melt, very easy fix, that's how i got mine for $200 with a amp head bag!
fixed it in 20min and used it for rehearsal that night, then gigged at least 75 shows last year with it doing classic rock kinda stuff. i used it as a one channel amp on the overdrive mode.

Here's my thread detailing the fix:

Word, I remember that thread, the easy fix is what kept me from being scared off of these amps. I haven't had a chance to play with it too much, but the clean chan is boomy as fuck and super sterile. I like the ultra chan with a noise gate for teh chuggaz.

When I signed on to drum for my friends' band the frontman (who I've known for 10 years) just had a shitty Squier practice amp and the same affinity Strat he's had since high school, and enlisted me to bring him up to snuff... we bought a V55 and a set of alnico pickups, and he almost CRIED the first practice afterwards. We're both crazy about the amp, as is our bass player.
I SHOULD mention that the first V55 we took delivery of was DOA though.
