BYOC Octave Fuzz Build

Had this guy's busted Moog amp here for a long ass time, asked him if he wanted to just sell it to me and he said just make me a pedal and you can have it. He liked the way my fuzz sounded, but I didn't think it was high enough quality so I droped $70 on this shit to see HOW IT DO.

I kinda feel lame about putting together a pedal with a damn circuit board, seems too easy, but i'll get over it.

Everything is packaged very nice, didn't expect that. Does not include instructions, save paper and get the pdf at the byoc site for free.

Case is kinda rough, but it's metal, so that's kewl

You can grind this off if you want to be dick and say you made this yourself

Most of the components. PCB is pretty damn high quality and feels sturdy.

Took about 30min to fully populate PCB with all stuff except for pot/switches/led and the other chasis related stuff. WAY TOO EASY
(note battery clip wires are backwards here)

I opted to knot the battery clip wires for added strain relief, but in this picture they are inserted the wrong way, that was fixed soon after.

Mission accomplished.

The Octave's different to the Leeds, I think? I've got that one though, the Superfuzz, and it's great.

Build complete and it works. Painful part was messing with the stomp switch. Will try to get some samples

Here's the math on parts cost, I sourced everything and estimated shipping to be about $10. Now remember your not getting a pre drilled enclosure or cool PCB, just a lame generic radioshack pcb. Cost came out to $62.98. The cost from BYOC was $69.99. So your really not going to save any money by buying all parts your self. Also had to source parts from different places so shipping would most likely be much more.

I built the Leeds Fuzz (Univox Superfuzz clone) and it rips. Definitely a good introduction to pedal building.
