My girlfriend Katie has decided to take up the electric guitar again - she used to play a few years ago but no longer has any of her gear. She's looking at getting a Squier Strat of some sort. Amp-wise I was trying to steer her towards a Vox Pathfinder of some description, but she has her heart set on this thing:
Does anyone have any experience with it, and if so is it any good?
But wouldn't the main benefit of the Mustang I be all the built-in effects and such? As much as I try to convince Katie, she just isn't into effects at all, something with a decent clean sound is all she needs.
I've got almost all of the effects off (I use some of the reverbs and trems on a few patches, mind, but they're more amp-based anyhow): worth the price for the Twin, Deluxe Reverb, Princeton and Champ models alone (the first three of which will be those decent cleans she's after), not to mention the really rather good Vox and Marshall models.
I'd give you a Victor Kiam-style moneyback guarantee if you're not entirely satisfied, but for the fact that:
a) I'm skint, and...
b) You're a fucking foetus so you have no idea who Victor Kiam is.
If she's adamant about getting an amp in yellow tweed then convince her to get the Mustang I and then buy her the mini Fender twin in tweed as a present:
Yeah, modelling is the way to go for sure: I'm guessing the distortion on that V15G is just gonna be your standard somewhat fizzy affair, and even if she's not into TEH RAWK now, there's a chance she might be down the line. A touch of delay/tremolo/reverb can make you sound and feel more like a "proper" guitarist, so why not?
That said, the Belcat DOES appear to go for sub-£50, which is a boon if she's unsure of how much she'll be playing. Resale on the Fender will be better, mind.

seriously at the stage shes at the most important thing is for her to be interested in WANTING to learn and put the effort in. i would let her have her own choice and then rejoice in the "i told you so" moment when she inevitably grows out of the amp.
it might not be the most versatile but it looks pretty sweet and as long as it can do a sensible cleanish sound and some mild gain surely it should be good for the first 12 months or so?
How Terribly Rock N Roll

I can't find a demo of this amp anywhere, but having seen demos of the 10 and 35 watt versions it looks like it'll be pretty decent for Katie's purposes. She can always upgrade at a later date.
