Tuner Drama

Post by bigbluezuk »

I am working on another guitar (Gibson LPish thing) so my first instinct was to throw some Grover 102 18N 3x3s on this thing. After digging around it appears that there are tons of fakes on the internet (I thought it was so pure?) and then come to find out they are not even made in the USA anymore but in Asia. I cannot tell anymore what is what on these sites. I want a Schaller (something made in Germany or USA anyways) equiv to those Grovers. Are the gotoh's worth a fart? Help?

Thanks

I think ends' had put the Guitar Fetish grover copies on the goth les paul before I bought and I have no problem whatsoever with them, shit is rock solid. they say 'JINKO' in script on them.

I had expensive Sperzel tuner on my guitar, because I wanted a better string pressure on the saddle, but realizing that they werent staggered and unrestringable, because they break immediatley, I resold it.
now I have some small Gotohs and they are just awesome and inexpensive.

Two of my guitars are fitted with Gotoh hardware, the stuff is absolutely solid. I especially love their 510 tuners that I have fitted to my arch top. They look like this:

Not cheap but very solid tuners.

I have these on my custom LP and they are really, really good.

I had those GFS grover copies on an epi G400 and they were way nicer than the Gibson keystones I had on there prior (the LP studio/faded series tuners with grover-sized shafts, which I replaced the vintage spec epi keystones with after one got damaged)

I hate those things.

I really like the Wilkinson Mini-Rotomatic-style tuners. They're the tuners that I've always installed on guitars that needed new tuners. Very smooth, look and feel great, too.

I like the shape of those. Not gold.

Thanks for the input guys. Those Gotohs sure are sexy, they do seem to be the new "standard" for quality. However, Ive got to say that the American Strat (non-locking) Schallers are pretty badass so I cant wait to see these Gotohs.
