They're like the stretched limo of guitars. It's a kind of 'just because I can' thing.
I don't really see much of a practical use (unless you're jimmy page).
Pedals these days can be used to approximate some of the sounds.
Having said that, one day I would like to build a Gibson ES1275 replica.
Even if I know I would never really use it.

i would never play a guitar with 2 necks. except for stairway to heaven song. i didnt even like my 12 string guitar so i sold it. it had a beautiful sound. but had to go because i hated it.
