Post by gypsyseven »

Probably million times already, so once again....

I´m using 11-48´s Ernie Ball Pure Nickels on my CP Jaguar and all other electrics for the last few years. But in the last few days i was thinking to "upgrade" to 11-52´s.....

Would it makes a "real" difference?

What do you like and use on your Jaguars?

I've used D'Addario EXLs, usually 10s. I used to use 11s but I switched to 10s. However, I should mention that on my last Jaguar, I had 9s on there and they worked fine (w/ a Mustang bridge).

I used to use the light top heavy bottom ones which I think we're 10-52

It's a bit low, really. Basically, the rule of thumb is that on 24" scale, the string tension is roughly 0.5 gauge off from the 25.5" scale. So like 10 gauge on 24" feels like 9.5 on 25.5". So 9s on 24" feels like 8.5s on 25.5", and a lot of people use 8s and thinner on Strats and Les Pauls.

9s are the most popular gauge of strings, I heard. I use 9.5s on longer scale, 10s on short scale.

Depends on tuning of course. In standard 9's are ace but they dont work too well on a Jag. I use 10s.

11.49s ok, so just a Squier Jag but feel the top is washing out (could be my set up) while the bottom sounds amazing.

They sound/feel pretty good on my CP jaguar, mellows it out nicely. before i found it a little too sharp. if i'm not mistaken you have the humbucker one? i dont know how flatwounds sound with humbuckers though.

I'm regressing. I have been using 10/52s on all my guitars for years (24, 24.75, 25.5). But Billy Gibbons uses 7s. And now I've been restringing with 9/42s. My Mustang, my Squier Jaguar, and one of my Super-Sonics are on 9s now. The rest will be. The exception is my Billy Bo which has 11/48s, following the advice of GDP folks.
I did buy a set of 8s that I'm going to try on my blue Super-Sonic soon.

I use D'Addario Jazz Lights (12 set with a wound G) on every electric guitar I have including my current Jag. I've also thrown Flatwound 12 Chromes on it from time to time as well......the "new," "old" Jaguar I'm (finally) bringing home tomorrow has some sort of 11s on it right now that didn't seem too bad, but I'm really heavy handed, so 12s will be on in short order.

I used 11's on my AVRI Jag with no problems whatsoever. Traditional style Jag bridge. It was set up pretty well.

Was using GHS Boomers at the time, which I thought were good for the price. D'Addarios are ace, though.
