NGD & New Guy on the Board

Post by Allanr »

After a couple of years playing ukelele (talk about short scale!) I decided to take the plunge and dive into the guitar a couple weeks ago. I went to a local music store and completely fell in love with a beatiful all white MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS. Played like a dream too. But after living with it for a while, I just couldn't get used to the size and weight. So today I returned it to the store and upgraded/downsized to a Fender Pawnshop MIJ Mustang Special in Lake Placid Blue.

Much better!

I'll post pics soon.

I tried one of these in summer and liked it a lot. they look a little odd if you're used to classic style Mustangs, but they definitely sound damn good, and the quality is a no brainer like with most of the current japanese stuff.

welcome to the forum :)

The little guy is my electric baritone uke/tenor guitar, which was my biggest fretted instrument before the Fenders!

@kypdurron Thanks for fixing the pix. The iPhone wasn't happy embedding them.

Welcome, Allen. And congratulations on such a fine Mustang.

I'm like you. Prefer a smaller, lighter axe. I have an old Mustang, a reissue Duo-Sonic, two Gibson BluesHawks, a Les Paul Special, and several Samicks that all fit into this smaller-ligter category.

The Duo-Sonic is the lightest of em all. And the Poplar Mustang is second.

Glad you're with us!

Welcome! Yes, I love the Pawnshop Mustang as well. Great neck and excellent quality. Amazing first guitar, I must say.

Beautiful guitar, and welcome...

Those Pawn Shop Mustangs are growing on me...starting to think I'd even prefer one of them to a normal one, if they weren't string through

Hey Allan. Pretty guitar there. How do you like the WRHB?

+1. Also do not prefer the WRHBs myself. But everything else is ace... fantastic neck, solid build, good colors IMO.

I had put 1 meg pots in my WRHB Tele Deluxe. Lost the mud but became too bright. Loved them coil tapped. Further experimenting with different value pots would have helped. What do the pawn sop series come with as far as pot values?

Honestly, at this stage of the game I'm still too much of a noob to comment intelligently. I do really love all of the different tone possibilities available through individual coil selection though.

Per Fender's website, the PS 'Stang is fitted with Enforcer "Wide Range" HB ... I think these are different than the Enforcers you're thinking of?

Along the same lines, the PS '72 has an Enforcer (not specified as WR) in the neck and a WR (not specified as Enforcer) in the bridge.

I'm assuming that the 'Stang pups are some sort of hybrid. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The uke is from a small American company called Konablaster. They make a soprano and a baritone, which is what I have.

They are sold by Elderly.
