laquer picture on guitar ?

i have seen something here years ago
someone with a gorgeous blue tele project that had some hindu kali art on the pickguard and head stock if i remember right.
could not find anything in search

but my question is this.

i have a picture id like to put on to my guitar what kind of coating would i need for it to be on for good and smooth ?

clear coat ? some kind of laquer .

any ideas guys?

You could also read up on how they do paisley teles. I've even seen people use t shirts put under clear coats.
