What guitar effect is this (Boy George -Crying Game)?

Post by Asher »

I saw Ace Ventura Pet Detective the other day and The Crying Game by Boy George came up in it. I really liked the effect on the guitar, but couldn't identify it.

the guitar starts around 0:06.

To me, it sounds like a clean guitar with a lot of reverb, but I'm not sure. Is this a particular guitar effect or perhaps a series of pedals?

I think it's a sampler. probably sampling a guitar. you might be able to get similar sound with a pitch shifting pedal of some sort. and yeah it has a lot of reverb on it.

I agree sampled guitar with a lot of reverb, you could get pretty close using a lot of reverb and a chorus pedal to emulate the slightly thickened bass notes... and a bit of wammy wiggling

Context be damned, every thread needs more Geoff Downes. The man destroyed when I saw him with Yes last summer. Would've been nice to see Wakeman, but it was kind of Yes Lite without Anderson either. Seeing Howe/Squire/White was enough for me. I can die happy now.

What were we talking about again? Oh, right: Finkle and Einhorn, Finkle and Einhorn. Einhorn IS Finkle. Finkle IS Einhorn. Einhorn is a man.

That should clear up your question, Asher.

I had always thought the guitar on this was a Les Paul until I looked down one day and saw it had a whammy bar!

In a production with that kind of sound it could really be anything. I have an old Kawai K1 that has a sound called 'Stratocaster' that is as likely a contender as any (sampled or real) guitar you care to name.
