swapping necks

Post by 58mark »

can I use a neck from a bronco bass on a Jag bass? I know the number of frets are different, and I might have to move the bridge, but I'm hoping the pocket is the same

well thanks anyway. I found a great deal on a jag without a neck, and I'm hoping the neck from my bronco can be made to work on it

Looking at the Fender website, the shortscale Jag bass has 20 frets and the Bronco bass has 19.

You could fit it, assuming the neck pockets are the same and you'll need to move the bridge to suit (the same distance as 19th to 20th fret).

yeah, that's what I'm hoping to do. Move the bridge, and then put a bridge bell on it to cover the holes

If the scale is the same but they have a different number of frets then other than a situation where you have a fretboard overhang, they won't be interchangeable. The most likely situation is that one is 'true scale' while one is a conversion neck designed for the same bridge position as standard scale.

Absolutely no. Don't even try it. Their neck pockets aren't even close to compatible.

I've got 4 already... LOL

My bronco neck is been modded so I like it, but I'm not totally happy with the pickup mods I did to it. I am hoping I can get the bronco neck to work, and then put my PJ set into the Jag body

I'll look at it when it gets here. I guess if it doesn't work I'm not out that much money

Which is the conversion neck, probably the jag? I thought people put bronco necks on musicmaster bass bodies all day long?

the jag has one more fret, but I won't know the differences in the pockets until the body gets here.

The bronco is more or less the same bass as the musicmaster, so It's not a surprise that they are interchangeable

That's dope. Not that I've got one, but I'm glad there's a neck out there for all those musicmaster bodies out there.

got the bass body in the mail today. the neck was actually really close to fitting... it took just a little tweaking of the side to get it to lay in the pocket. it's about a 29/25 scale, so I'll have to move the bridge 3/4 of an inch.

the main problem is the neck pocket on the new body is about 1/10th of an inch shallower than the bronco bass, which means I will either have to adjust the saddles sky high, sand it out by hand, or break out the router... and I would probably mess something up if I did that...

I've got some ideas, but thankfully, this is just a fun experiment project, and I'm in no hurry
