IMO, they don't belong on a guitar that is not cramped for real estate. Stare at the Strat for long enough and you'll see that it's a very short body compared to a Mustang, Jaguar, or Jazzmaster. There really isn't any room left on the face of the guitar once you get the three knobs in. Meanwhile, all a Jaguar has is space, especially if it only has two knobs to begin with.

Also, I dislike the angle of the thing. Right angle jacks are lame in them, and straight jacks are fine but I don't like how the whammy bar gets stuck on them without really holding it there either.

I like 'em on Strats just fine, and I love Strats too. They're based on aerial/antenna cowls from cars and are mainly designed around protecting the jack in case of drops/bumping into stuff. I think they do a better job keeping the jack out of the way at all times than any other Fender. I don't think there's any feng-shui reason for them not looking right on other things either, just traditionalism. I think Strats look rather weird without them, because something's missing. And a Jaguar/Jazzmaster isn't one without that supremely horrified mouth of a tremolo tailpiece, either.

Nothing wrong with them . They're just too conventional if anything IMO. And look lame on an offset..

One good thing about strat jacks is they are easy to remove when the nut inevitably comes loose from the jack. My daughter's Hello Kitty Mini strat had the jack come loose and it was a quick fix. Someone left an unused piece of solder behind the jack plate and it was rattling around. I don't care for them but at least the can be fixed easy enough.
