Ibanez Talman value

Post by mkt3000 »

This is a question for the stateside posters. Have any of you seen used Ibanez Talmans pop up in pawn shops or local guitar shops? I had one back in the day, and I'm missing it... but ebay values are making me a bit leary, since I've seen them go from $200-900 depending on the spec. I won't pull the trigger until I have a better idea of what they're going for retail stateside (sometimes it's cheaper for me to hop on a plane and buy a guitar stateside than it is to buy it on ebay and pay for shipping)

My roommate college bought one years ago for $600 new, but it was one of the really nice ones made towards the end of their run. His Talman was a maple topped body in tranluscent green and a maple fretboard.

Most of these guitars aren't solid bodies. Almost a sandwich of woods. I have seen them at Guitar Center used in the $150 -$250 range.

This is exactly what my roommate from college has

i usually see them at 400ish

i wonder why there's such a wide range?

the one i've played (a bandmate's many years ago) was with lipsticks.

I loved it, and totally have wanted one ever since.

That avocado one I want to say is a Japanese one . I've seen them on e-bay going for about $300-$350 mark.. One of that exact model and color just went for $300 on ebay recently ( I was eyeballing the auction ) .. But there are 2 like that . The earlier ones were Japanese and the later ones Korean. Obviously the Japanese ones fetch a little more .

I like em. For the money they're damn good .

Did they make these with fixed bridges? I wouldn't mind having a natural/butterscotch one if that was the case.

Mine was Japanese. IIRC, a Fujigen Guitar. I got it for about $470 new from Sam Ash in Manhattan with the most padded gig bag I've ever owned.

The Noodles signature guitar is essentially a fixed bridge Talman. I saw one a few months back on ebay, and the dude wouldn't ship to PR, or to an unconfirmed address. Sucks, cause I wanted it and it went for $270.

Fixed bridge, HSH, and a paint job I'd paint over.

This guy I started jamming with has a blue sparkle one with humbuckers and a bigsby. I thought it was some weird modded supersonic at first.

I never knew about these things being chambered. I kind of want one (eventually) now

Prices are all over the place.
A bud tried to sell one about two years ago and had to keep dropping his price and relisting.
I think he finally only got like $150 for it...

But I've seen them go for $500 at other times.

I think the general range is $250-$400 - but they rise and fall just like anything else.
