The hole the trem arm mechanism goes through is round on one and more oval on the other. Japanese has a shiny trem lock and the US version has a matte finish on it.

So I did call Fender today, they had 4 in stock, well.... now 3 because I've ordered one with staff discount.

Maybe I should buy to sell on hahaa...

How does the CP JM/Jag trem compare to the AVRI and Japanese Trems? I always wondered about their quality.

They are for sale on Angela and they have the threaded vibrato arms.

The CP trem has a screw-in arm that is just a teeny bit (fraction of an inch, IIRC) shorter than the AVRI arm. The Fender rep I spoke with about it told me there is no noticable difference in function between the two, and indeed I've found that to be the case. Except that, with a strat trem spring under the CP's screw-in arm, it stays where I put it, unlike the AVRI arm I had previously. The hardware quailty is indistinguishable, and they have the same dimensions.

FWIW the arm tips they come with are different shades, white vs. parchment, or whatever. I think.

I prefer the CP trem, because I like the arm to stay put and I can detect no difference whatsoever otherwise. There is now an aftermarket gizmo to hold the AVRI trem arms still, but it costs a lot more than a strat trem spring.

I don't know about CIJ trem, never played one.

that reminds me, i lost the tip cover for my cp jag trem.. and none of the replacement tip covers i've ordered have ever fit.. nor does the cover from a mim/mij arm.. tis very strange.

I replaced my CP trem arm tip with a "Fender Original Strat Aged Trem Tip", Part #099-4933-000, so it would match my guitar's pickup covers. The tip does not seem to be quite as tight a fit as the original, but it stays on the arm, it seems to fit well enough to me.

same thing happened to me too. D: makes me sad. used a pen cap as a tip for a while but it just wasn't the same.

well, received my new tremolo today... all fitted now too.

Had a good hour playing with it.... it's delightful, nice and solid... and no string breakages !!!
