New here, Hi.
Hi all. Found this place thanks to the dispute(?) between some folks here and some on the Strat forum.... (The one featured at the top of the page.)
I'm new to short scale and offset style guitars, though not new to guitar building/modding. Currently beginning work on my first Mustang and Jazzmaster types.
So I'm looking forward to picking up some tips and ideas and maybe contributing something useful now and again.

Right.
I'm definately not looking for a place to trade....
Thanks for the welcome.
By the way the name is Rob. (Given the issue I mentioned in my OP maybe I should have picked a differnt name as my handle?)

Welcome aboard.
I'm a mod here and I personally think the recent dispute here was handled badly by both sides (Cage the Elephant and those who jumped on him) but that sort of things happens from time to time as a consequence of having a fairly relaxed mod and admin team. Compared to other guitar forums it can be a relatively lively place but you'll still find plenty of good quality content in the main guitar forums.
Although named shortscale there's probably more of a mix of guitar tastes here than you'll imagine. I don't remember the numbers but I think it was somewhere around 50% of the forum that don't even own a shortscale. I know I don't at the moment. People here will definitely be interested in your other builds and mods.

Ah, I thought it was less than that. It's over a year old now, though. Probably about time for a new one.hotrodperlmutter wrote:it's actually 50% play as primary guitar, 30% own one.James wrote:I don't remember the numbers but I think it was somewhere around 50% of the forum that don't even own a shortscale.

Thanks for the welcome. As far as the dispute goes, I only mentioned it because I didn't know Shortscale existed until I stumbled across that thread on Strat Talk and I wouldn't form an opinion on a forum based on one dispute, these thing happen from time to time. Forums where people are willing to share knowledge and where the atmosphere is generaly pretty relaxed are good and what I've seen of Shortscale so far seems to fit the bill.James wrote:Welcome aboard.

I started arround 1976, building through neck styles from scratch. (Think those exotic woods and laminated neck type electrics from back then) Over the years I've gradualy moved to more traditional Fender types and designs, though often with some variations.cur wrote:Wellcome, post pics of the builds. What other stuff have you built?
I've never done a stage by stage build post with pics, but I'll try and get my act together for some over the next few months and will post some previous builds once I work out how to post pictures here. (I'm assuming I need to use photobucket or similar? Or can I post direct from my computer?)
Ya, I use the uploader that is on here. Works great. Just click it and register. You don't get spam or anything like that.Fran wrote:Welcome Rob. I too look forward to seeing your builds. Do you have any pics of the thru-necks? I personally like all that early BC Rich and 70's MIJ thru-neck stuff
Photobucket is one option, the uploader (top right hand side of the forum) is another.

Every board, band, and brand has fans and haters. We're no different. We like guitars as well as any board, but not the usual lineup. Oddball guitars are interesting and can be cheaper. And guitars are just the jumping off point. After that it's chemistry, alchemy, or anarchy. I have learned a lot on Shortscale, Reranch, and Offset. Less on occasional visits to other brands.

Welcome Rob! Awesome to have you here mate, always exciting to have a new member who builds. Projects thread needs MOAR builds. Oh and you're perfectly welcome to use classifieds when you get there - just to clarify it's really only when we see new members firing off 50 very quick posts containing about 3 words and then stick their advert in the 'fieds on their 51st post that it seems a bit...rude...!
Plenty of folks here know their stuff so any quaetions you got about the builds then fire away, someone always knows the answer.
Also I second Gaybear - 1976: THE YEAR GODS WERE BORN ON EARTH ...AND/OR STARTED BUILDING GUITARS
