Refin'ing a Refinned '65 Jaguar

I took my dad's vintage Grestch Country Club in to get a set up because I was borrowing it for a show. I came back and the tech had sanded the gold off the hardware because it was pitted in a few spots. One of the biggest regrets of my life was not doing anything about it, I was just in complete shock and was a total puss back then.

Was this guitar ever for sale on the internet? The story of it being repainted against the owners wishes and a lawsuit sounds like something I've seen/read about before. Including the part about the owner dying and it being sold.

Yes, the store had it listed on ebay for a month or two, but never got any bites on it at their listed price.
