I found that it's a little quieter than, say, the Dimarzios, but every inflection rings out nice and clear. It sounds great clean, but going through my Danelectro Daddy-O Overdrive (my main OD for my Dimarzio'd Jag) sounded kind of muddy. So I put it through a crap DS-2 and it sounded really good, whereas my other Jag, with the Super (Distortio) II's sounds like ass when put through that same box. I've taken it out of my blue Jag because I missed having the Super II in there though.

I was thinking if it sounds that good through a distortion box I might end up pulling the trigger on a some decent distortion like a Source Audio Multiwave box after reading about it in GP to go along with the MIDI EXP they've got coming out.

Sorry it's been a while since I posted an update... Just finished routing the body a second time to accommodate the preamps. Here's a shot of the temporary mockup.



I didn't have the time before work tonight to make room for and untangle all the wires underneath, hence why the pickguard sticks up a bit.

Not enough to be concerned about, though it is a tad neck heavy it's certainly within what would be considered a normal weight ratio.

Old Candy Apple Red. I've had two Jag's this colour, the first was a bit on the rust side of the spectrum, this one's a bit on the red wine spectrum.

Let's say I call them by what they are on a regular Jaguar:

Neck pickup on/off = Piezo Only/Blend/Magnetic Only.
Bridge Pickup on/off = MIDI Only/Blend/Magnetic Only.
Bass Cut = Momentary selector switch to scroll through settings on Roland GK synths.

On the upper horn I've got:

Volume = Magnetic pickup tone pot hooked up to a Hovland Musicap 0.1 capacitor.
Tone = MIDI volume.

And on the lower section of the body, from the bottom:

1/4" Stereo output for Piezo and Magnetic pickup simultaneously.
13-pin GK MIDI.
Acoustiphonic volume with Push/Push midboost.
1meg ohm CTS volume pot.

Seriously cool project. I used to want to get a ghost system for one of those Squier Tele customs with the P90s....I had the headstock decals made and everything ><. Oh well times have changed and I sold all my synth guitar gear.

BTW, as to the whole Mez/Mike debate over which project is more exciting, that's really just silly. Apples to oranges. Exciting can mean a lot of things, including refreshing and different...I got the feeling Mez was talking about the end result, not the amount of work that went into it by the owner. At the end of the day, if I saw any of the projects mentioned in this thread including Handen's in a shop together, I would be at a serious loss as to which to try first, all for different reasons, since they're all damn amazing in their own right. You could say added props to Hurb/Zion for building theirs themselves, but like Handen said it's all means to an end.

I find MIDI on guitars abhorrent.
I find Piezo's on electric guitars lame.

To a certain extent agreed. I've had both on different guitars (midi on an 80's squier bullet, piezo on the burg mist strat.)....both are gone from my rig, but mainly because it was way too complicated and space consuming to set up a rig for it to be used properly. If you don't think of Midi guitar as any different than playing keyboard, it's not that bad. It's way easy to get carried away and abuse it though. Piezos can have good real world uses but you need to go into an acoustic amp to get anywhere near an acoustic sound. And that adds more guitar/pedal switching into the equation.

At the end of the day I'd rather play guitar, not the pedals/switches that make my guitar sound like something it's really not. However, I think it's kinda cool to have a guitar that's ready for almost anything, and if you have the means and willpower to actually use it, I'm not going to hate.

I wasn't hating as much as presenting my opinion that there have been projects with more real craft than this one. Handen is making a guitar he wants and fair play to him, I'm not going to diss it.

Personally I would just use my Electro Acoustic rather than a Piezo, and I generally just play guitar.
