So, Stewart, how did they copy the Hagström Viking when the Fender Coronado was first announced in 1965? The Gibson 335 was first released in 1958! Did Roger Rossmeisl get use of Doc Brown's Deloreon?
Eh... Where exactly would he need to have used the time machine? Viking released in 1965 and then in late 1965 Fender announces they're gonna produce a ripoff. The timeline works fine.
No, Fender announced the Coranado in November 1965, BEFORE the Hagström Viking was released. Did you fail to notice that the Es-335 weas released several years before either?

... this was in November 1965. Probably started development in late 1964 when Roger Rossmeisl was hired on at Fender after leaving Rickenbacker.

Where does it say that the Viking was released after Nov '65?

He probably just copy/pasted where I had used it in my post.

Keep in mind, he's doing all this with one hand... busy. It's all really quite impressive.

You are tripping balls. The only person who took this where it has ended up is you with your "Groundskeeper Willie" comment, on top of all the ignorance.

Is this a Coronado? (tune in at about the 3:00 mark)

It has a maple neck with a weird shaped headstock.
if this is a Coronado, I want one. Nice cover of a Wilco song
Same guitar (tune in at 2:25)

Looks like a old Vox. Unsure though.

I looked up the Vox and the Vox looks more like a Gibson 335.
Did any of the other guitars besides the Coronado have a maple neck?
It looks like a Coronado 2 but with neck that is on the Vox guitar below
Vox Guitar with Fender Coronado neck. (Premier guitar said it was a Coronado neck)
I want one!

so what's your point guy? the coronado came after the 335? ok great. so what. it's not a copy of a 335 any way you look at it. it's obviously Fender having a go at making their own hollow body electric. at most you can say the shape of it was vaguely influenced by the 335. just as easily could have been a Gretsch though. beyond that you're comparing apples and oranges.
if you haven't noticed this is a Fender fan site so by coming on here and bashing a Fender model you are essentially trolling.

Who cares where Fender got their inspiration for the Coronado from?? You may have a point with the release dates, but that doesn't change the fact that the Viking II and the Coronado look far more similar than the es-335/Coronado.
The Coronado is a good guitar. They sound really good for certain types of music. Those guys from that vid you posted don't know shit. I watched their vids many times.
They tried to claim that the Mustang was a CBS invention. They said Swingers were made from Electric XIIs and they compared musicmasters and duosonics to toys. Seriously.
also: Have you actually played a Hagström?? Vintage or otherwise?? They are sick fucking guitars. Especially the Viking.
Try telling Frank Zappa that Hagström Vikings are crapola. No wait, he's dead. Go out and play one.
I like Hagström's fine.
I was merely making the point that as much as Gibsons "barrow" from Fender, Fender barrows just as much right back. I used the Fender Coranado as an example of this. Stewart said I was wrong, and said that the Coranado was not inspired by the 335 but by the Hagström Viking. I said this was incorrect and now with the dates I have provided I have proven as much.
I am very calm and have suggested several times that Mike and Stewart chill out and all they've done is get nasty. Skiptracer1981, just read the whole thread mate.
L-O-L.
i really don't have to make this point as everyone seems to understand it except you, but seeing as you're insisting on carrying on with your pig ignorance i'll say this:
the viking features in the 1964 hagstrom catalogue. the 'dates you have provided' prove nothing whatsoever.
the coronado and the 335, as has been said more than once, have nothing in common other than a similarity of outline. the coronado was definitely an attempt by fender to get a slice of the market dominated in the main by gibson, yes, but it is NOT a rip-off of an ES-335, which is the point you keep doggedly trying to make. you've even started doing it on offset. you have nothing to back it up apart from saying 'everyone thinks it's a 335 rip-off' and mentioning the 335 came out in 1958 as if this was some sort of trump card. WTF? even the wikipedia page you linked to earlier says the construction is completely different. it's like saying the les paul is a rip off of a telecaster because they're both made of wood and one came out a few years before the other.
nobody here has ever denied that gibson, fender and other companies have borrowed from each other from time to time, why on earth would they?
you think coronados are shit, fine, good for you. but saying they're shit because they don't sound like a 335 just makes you look like an idiot. i'm done arguing with you because you're obviously tapped in the head.

taylor- none of the guitars in those videos are coronados, and looking at the inlays, the one pictured below definitely isn't a coronado neck.

LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT HOW AWFULLY SIMILAR THEY ARE. LOOK AT THAT. THEY'RE VERY CLOSE TO BEING EXACTLY THE SAME GUITAR.

Here is the link where I got the picture from. I am not expert on Coronados, that's just what they said at the website.
the unique aspect of the 335 is the center block. fender did utilize this feature, not on the coronado, but on the starcaster. but the offset body, bolt-on neck, and string-though bridge set it apart from being a "rip-off".
the coronado was obviously just fender's attempt at entering the hollowbody market. apart from the rather ubiquitous body style, it shares nothing in common with the 335.

Whether the Coronado is based on the 335 or the Viking isn't really important, as the Viking is clearly based on the 335.
I'm not saying any of these guitars are as similar as they look, but they're certainly made to look similar.

i'd say it's more likely to be based on the ES-330 given the fully hollow body and distinct lack of humbuckers, but whatever. it's a 335 rip-off, we all know that.
