FFS! The bypass LED has died! It switches fine, just the LED doesn't nowt.

OK that's pretty frigging odd. LEDs rarely die unless they get way too much current and then generally it's fairly explosive.

I wonder whether it will be possible to get to it.

Maybe it's actually that pole of the switch which has gone bad and not the LED.

Do you has multimeter?

happened to me couple of times that the led got out of its place slightly so there was no contact, you can try to move it a bit and see if it works

It should be soldered so it's not that it's not making a connection, or there is something reaaaly wrong. It could be though that the two legs of the LED have touched and so the current is instead just bypassing the LED altogether and not lighting it. This might be what you're "fixing" when you move the LED. Generally people use rubber spacers so this can't occur though. i.e. they hold the LED legs akymbo.

Despite taking off all the dials and washers, I can't get at the front of the LED side- the jacks click into place, never to be budged again. And jiggling the LED aboot does nothing. Weirdly enough, there's no solder points for the either LED on the back side of the PCB, could they just "plug" in, and are held into place with force?

if i remember well there might be another pcb under. u can unscrew the jacks and take it off but this is how i broke the hazarai knob so be extra careful if u do it

I think the pots may go into a second PCB, but I managed to sneak a peek through the footswitch hole and LEDs go straight into the main board

It looks like a MBM bypass loop with a boost control and status LED might be an elegant fix to both my current problems, although I wish I could sort this new one out

im with you there, i damaged the knobjust few days after i got it and it hurts to see a new pedal have a fault
in any case you can always send it for free repair to the eu headquarters of ehx in germany. the wait will kill you but its still an option unless someone can fix it for you (should by an easy fix)

any news on the dead led / boost project?

I've ordered a few small pots so I can install one in Doog's pedal. They were ordered 2 days ago but haven't been shipped yet.

There is an outside chance I will be able to do this before Xmas but it's doubtful. I'll have to see if there's anything I can do about the LED.

That's great Mike, thanks so much. There's no real rush as I don't have any gigs or anything lined up, so don't do your nut attempting to fit it around your current orders.

It would be preferable for us to drill the case with the PCB out so that any schall (scrap metal from the drilling process) doesn't get where it shouldn't, but if it's impossible, we can always protect the board with card and tape.

Yes, i took it out and it was fairly easy as far as i remember, you just have to figure out how to work it out with the jacks. its harder to get it back in because you have to line up the mode LEDs and the pots, this is where i failed. I will check it out when I get home tonite and will try to give you some directions.

so, i checked it out and its not that hard to take it out. after you unscrew all knobs and jacks, take a screwdriver or another object not very pointy and sharp and push from the outside of the chassis the black plastic parts where the jacks screw. u know, just push lightly inside and upwards until the part goes out of the hole and then just pull the pcb. they move inside just by a third of mm or so, so its not dangerous for the jacks, but be extra careful with all leds and knobs.
when you put it back in, make sure you've pushed the pcb all the way down before you start screwing the rings of the knobs, cause if there is a gap they might pop off.
