They might look kind of cool with a maple neck, black blocks and black headstock. But would have to be capable of some straight up Ophius-tones for it to be worth doing.

Well, stap me vitals. Kypdurron has pointed out something I hadn't clocked.
Thomann website prices for that Classic Vibe 50s Tele:
Swedish: 299 Euros including 25% mom
German: 298 (what's the MWT in Germany these days?)
Irish: 298 including 21% Irish VAT
Greek: 295 including 23% Greek VAT
Spanish: 279 including 18% IVA

Free shipping threshold varies, too, so Germany gets free shipping at 25 Euros order value, Ireland at 199 Euros, Greece at 299.

Why couldn't they do that burst for the jag instead of the silver?

FML

Needs open coils too

Pretty much every Fender guitar ever comes in sunburst. It's as boring as it gets. And although they're sticking to their 'maximum choice of three colours but most guitars only come in two' policy it's nice that sunburst isn't an option this time.

It does look classy on some 60s stuff but that's about it.

i may have to pull for a jag and a jazzy in the black.

but it will really depend upon how they sound.

I'm also sick of Fender only offering stuff in black and sunburst, but it's not the sunburst option that bothers me.

I like my Fenders to be sunburst (it's an interesting and classic finish that leaves different impressions on different people and makes each guitar it comes in slightly unique, even if it does turn out ugs) or failing that, a goddamn colour.

All the tech specs, including on the Fender Australia site, say it has an adjust-o-matic bridge and AVRI trem with trem lock, but all the pics show the Jazzmaster to have a traditional JM bridge and a trem without the lock. I wonder which combination it will turn out to be? I'm tempted to get the sunburst one. Not my first choice of colour, but it beats black any day.

The Jaguar looks like it would be a fun mod platform. I doubt the body has the proper routing for all the traditional controls but that's an easy enough fix.

I agree that having the truss adjustment on the headstock is ugly, but I prefer that than to have it at the neck heel. Doing a setup on a fender with the the neck heel adjustment takes a good while longer than on the headstock ones, what with having to constantly unbolt the neck until the truss rod is "just right". Of course the fact that I'm anal when doing setups doesn't help, either.

I think these will be a modder's dream platform. It cuts out the rhythm circuit that most people don't take the time to learn (I like them) and the price will make if very affordable. I really hope these are routed like CP Jags/jazzmasters to make it even easier but I won't hold my breath on that. The Jazzmaster could easily be modded to have a Jazzmaster pup in the bridge if the humbucker doesn't work out. I would love to take the Jazzmaster and swipe the tuners and JM pickups from my Jagmaster to make a really nice Jazzmaster (minus the rhythm circuit). I always liked the Jaguar HH platform, but it was too expensive for most people to buy new then mod out. The Blacktop Jaguar would be cool to drop teh Kurtz Jag switch plate and add the bass cut switch. Adds a little more chrome and class to the instrument.
