The Mustang looks so good, although personally I'd rather have it all black, but it still looks fantastic. :D

Hey Stewart,

That mustang looks SWEET, the ash body has a really nice grain. It looks like Fender actually matched the pieces properly when making the body. Whoever put together my '76 stang body didn't do nearly as nice a job of grain matching.

There's actually a Fender Japan reissue of the 1977 mustang that's cosmetically identical to yours, except with black strat knobs instead of the proper ones. I don't think they've ever been exported outside of Japan, which sucks because maple fingerboard Mustang necks are badass.

yeah, i saw a brand new one very recently on ebay.com, it looked absolutely delicious (apart from the knobs). i wanted an ash body/maple neck for aaages before i found this one, i really love it. although in terms of playability the duo definitely has the edge. it weighs about half as much!

'77 ash reissue here.

was nosing about on the ishibashi site after reading benecol's post on mike's mustang thread. like he said, click on 'fender japan' on the left then scroll down to mustang link and it's in there. from the looks of things you can choose colours from the chart, it'd be nice to have a 3 tone sunburst with a maple fretboard.

Mine is a '78 as well, I love it... I'm really tempted to go buy that '78 mustang bass at Music Go Round too.

Did you mod it yourself? What's the humbucker?

Yeah, I modded it myself. Well, got dad to do the routing (seeing as he's a luthier ). It's a Kent Armstrong PAF plus kinda thingy. It sounds pretty bitchin'. I also added a coil tap on the switch.

I have the same guitar, and I too put a black guard on it. Although I like brown tort, on the cream guitars it makes it look too much like baby turd. The black gives it a badass 70's vibe.

Totally. I wasn't sure if black would work on the cream when I bought the scratchplate, but it really does.
